Whiteoak shows improvement in loss at Paint Valley

The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats continued to show improvement compared to recent seasons on Monday (Nov. 25) as they doubled their scoring from their season opener, though they still weren’t able to gain a win, falling to the host Paint Valley Lady Bearcats, 62-40.
In the loss at Paint Valley in Bainbridge, the Lady Wildcats — of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference — saw senior Kensley Bailey lead the way with 18 points. Bailey scored five points in the first two quarters combined, but she broke out for 13 points in the final two frames.
For the game, in Bailey’s 18-point effort, she collected six two-point baskets and was 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.

Next in scoring for Whiteoak was senior Cylee Bratton with eight points, scoring five points in the first quarter and three points in the third. Bratton sank 3-pointers in each of the quarters she scored.
Scoring five points each were Brie Walker and Kara Ward. Walker scored two points in the second and knocked down a 3-pointer in the third quarter. Wards had three points in the third and two points in the fourth frame.
Rounding out the WHS scoring were Brooklynne Campbell and Emmy Hawkins with two points each as both players scored their points in the second quarter.
In the game, WHS had seven points in the first, followed by a second frame of nine points, though they trailed 37-16 at halftime. Paint Valley scored 16 points in the first frame and 21 points in the second quarter.
In the second half, PVHS — of the Scioto Valley Conference — scored 12 points in the third and 13 points in the fourth. On the other side, Whiteoak had a 15-point third frame, then added nine points in the final quarter.
Whiteoak in the third saw a 3-pointer from Bratton, along with six points from Bailey. Also in the quarter, Ward scored three points, as did Walker.
The fourth-quarter scoring for WHS included seven points by Bailey and two from Ward.
For the game, WHS totaled 11 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers and they were 9-of-14 from the free-throw line. As for PVHS, they finished the game with 16 two-point baskets, six 3-pointers, and they were 12-of-21 in their free throw shooting.
Leading Paint Valley in scoring was Baylee Uhrig with 18 points, including three 3-pointers, three two-point baskets, and she was also 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Next for Paint Valley was Hanna Uhrig with 13 points, as she finished the game with one two-point basket, two 3-pointers and a 5-of-8 performance from the free-throw line.
Also in double-figure scoring for PVHS was Grace Mustard with 10 points. Other PVHS scoring included Averi McFadden with seven points, Ahneka Campbell with seven points and Angel Proehl, also with seven points.
Whiteoak (0-2) will next play again on Saturday, Nov. 30 in a home game against the East Clinton Lady Astros at 5 p.m.
