Whiteoak pitchers, cousins throw back-to-back no-hitters

The Whiteoak Wildcats had a rare occurrence happen this week, as two of their pitchers — who also happen to be cousins — tossed back-to-back no-hitters in Whiteoak victories, with Eli Roberts pitching a no-hitter against the West Union Dragons and Connor Butler earning the win over the Eastern Warriors.
Within those no-hitters, the Wildcats won by a 20-2 score over West Union and 12-0 against Eastern.
In his no-hitter on Monday, April 25, Roberts threw five innings for the complete game, where he faced 20 batters. That start saw him walk zero batters, hit one batter and allow two unearned runs with seven strikeouts. Roberts had at least one strikeout in each of his five innings on the mound, with two strikeouts in both the first and second innings.
“Eli has been more than impressive in his two starts on the mound,” WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. “He’s been our fifth/sixth starter to this point and has definitely opened some eyes.”
The two players who scored runs for West Union reached the bases on errors by the Wildcats, with those runs scoring in the first and fourth innings.
As for the Wildcat offense, they scored two runs in the first inning played at Whiteoak High School, followed by a 15-run second inning. From that point, WHS added three more runs in the third inning.
The Wildcats totaled 12 hits and forced 10 walks, while also adding eight steals and 18 RBI.
Carson Emery, Ian Griffith, Butler and Roberts each gained two hits, and combined for seven RBI. Emery finished 2-for-2 with two runs, three RBI, a sacrifice and one steal. Griffith was 2-for-3 with one run, two RBI, one walk and one steal. Butler went 2-for-2 with two runs, one RBI, one walk and two steals. Roberts was 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and one walk.
Also with one hit each for Whiteoak were Landon Barnett, Nate Price, Solomon Combs and Zander Roades. Runs for WHS were scored by Luken Roades (two), Isaiah Rowe, Barnett (two), Wyatt Ruark, Emery (two), Price (three), Dakota Clift, David Donohoo, Griffith, Butler (two), Roberts (two) and Zander Roades.
On Tuesday (April 26), the Whiteoak Wildcats saw Butler earn his no-hitter with a 12-0 victory by WHS in five innings on the road at Eastern High School.
Butler in his no-hitter allowed no runs or hits in five innings and had just three walks, all while collecting six strikeouts, as he faced 18 batters. The win by Butler moves him to 6-0 on the season.
Butler finished the game with two strikeouts in the first and fifth innings, plus had one strikeout in the second and third innings.
Offensively for Whiteoak, they scored three runs in the top of the third, followed by a five-run fourth inning, and four more runs in the fifth inning.
WHS had seven hits with Price finishing 3-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles. Emery was 2-for-2 with two runs, three RBI, two doubles, one walk and one sacrifice. Roades was 1-for-2 with three runs, two walks, and three steals.
Barnett totaled one run and one walk, while Donohoo scored one run and had one hit. Griffith finished with one run and one walk. Butler scored a run, walked once, was hit by a pitch and collected two steals.
Roberts for WHS finished with two runs, a walk and one steal, while teammate Kaden Moon-Stone scored two runs and was hit by a pitch twice.
The two victories moved WHS to 12-6 overall and 8-1 in the SHAC Division II standings.
“Connor Butler with his no-hitter, and he is so fun to watch. His no-hitter gives us back-to-back no-hitters on consecutive days by cousins,” Veidt said. “We put together a complete game (Tuesday) with zero errors, barreled balls up, and we saw 162 pitches in five innings, plus we applied pressure on the bases.”
