Whiteoak picks up weekend win over Bethel-Tate

The Whiteoak Wildcats gained a non-conference home win on Saturday (Jan. 11) at Whiteoak High School by defeating the Bethel-Tate Tigers, 56-48.
In the win, the Wildcats made 13 two-point baskets, five 3-pointers and were 15-of-22 from the free-throw line. Looking at Bethel-Tate, the Tigers also totaled 15 two-point baskets and five 3-pointers but were only 3-of-10 in their free-throw attempts.
Bethel-Tate even led by a 15-5 score at the end of the first quarter, as Bradley Ashbaugh sank a 3-pointer for WHS, and Carson Emery contributed two points in the first frame.

Whiteoak (4-6) improved in the second frame with a 16-10 scoring lead in the quarter, as Ashbaugh hit another three points (plus he added a two-point basket), while Landon Barnett achieved the same feat of a 3-pointer and two-point field goal. Scoring two points each in the quarter were Nick Bailey, Emery and Brayden Yeager.
At halftime, the host Wildcats trailed 25-21.
In the third quarter, the Wildcats added 20 more points to their total, while BTHS scored eight points in the same frame for a 41-33 lead by WHS to end the third.
WHS had five points by Ashbaugh (including a third 3-pointer) in the third, plus four points each from Bailey, Emery and Josh Hughes. Also in the third, Barnett tallied three points.
Whiteoak scored 15 more points in the fourth quarter, compared to 15 points by Bethel-Tate. WHS had four points each by Ashbaugh, Bailey and Barnett, while Gavin Temple collected two points and Hughes scored a point in the fourth.
Next for WHS is a home game on Friday, Jan. 17 against the Fairfield Lions in SHAC action.
