Whiteoak Lady ‘Cats have season end with sectional semifinal loss to Western Latham

MCDERMOTT — The season came to a close for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats on Wednesday night in their Division IV SE District Sectional Semifinal game at Northwest High School. The Lady ’Cats played with hustle, but in the end Western Latham was just too strong, defeating WHS, 57-22.
Whiteoak (0-23) had a very tough first quarter where Western scored the first 20 points of the game and won the quarter at 28-2. In the first quarter for Western, Sylvia Evans scored her 1,000th career point — off a jumper — with 4:34 left in the opening frame, putting Lady Indians ahead 11-0.

Evans finished the game with 16 points off eight two-point field goals, all scored in the first half.
WHS broke the scoring run with a two-point basket by Kara Ward with 1:25 left in the first frame.
The second quarter saw the Lady ’Cats score nine points as Kayla Jones made two buckets from the field, while Ward sank a two-point basket, Cylee Bratton went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line and Liz Edwards also made a free throw.
At the half, Whiteoak trailed, 49-11, with the Lady Indians winning the quarter, 21-9.
For the game, Bratton led the Lady ’Cats with six points and Edwards totaled five points in the game, while Ward and Jones each scored four points.
The second half saw Whiteoak score four points in the eight-minute frame with both two-point baskets off shots made by Bratton, as each team scored four points in the quarter.
Whiteoak in the fourth quarter had two made baskets by Edwards, a two-point basket by Katie Taylor and one made free throw by Ariel Farahey as WHS won the fourth frame at 7-4.
As for Western, they also had 15 points by Haley Whitt, 11 points by Chloe Beekman and six points from Taylor Horner.
Other Western scoring included four points by Alyssa Marhoover, two points each by Katrina Donahue and Brooklyn Tackett and one point by Abby Gast.
Western totaled 22 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers and they were 4-of-15 from the free-throw line in their ninth win of the season.
WHS totaled nine two-point baskets and were 4-of-5 in their free-throw shooting for the game.
Seniors for Whiteoak are Sha Van Lieu, Hailey Monteith and Emily Holladay.
