Whiteoak defeats East Clinton for road win; falls to Peebles

The Whiteoak Wildcats split their past two games, as they were defeated on Friday night by Peebles in a 62-39 road loss but came right back the next night to gain a road win by defeating the East Clinton Astros by a 55-44 score in non-conference action.
In the Friday night game, the Wildcats (5-2 overall) trailed by a 13-9 score at the end of the first frame at Peebles, and following being outscored 11-7 in the second frame, Whiteoak trailed 24-16.

The third frame saw Peebles score 17 points, while Whiteoak scored nine points. In the fourth frame, Peebles added 21 points, while Whiteoak scored 14 points.
Hunter Ruckel led the Wildcats with 16 points, while also having three rebounds, two steals and one assist. Also in double figures for the Wildcats in the loss was Zach Rand with 10 points and five rebounds.
Other scoring for the Wildcats included Brayden Yeager (6), Deavin Cumberland (3), Ryan Roberts (2) and Nick Bailey (2).
On Saturday, the Wildcats regrouped and won by 11 points in Clinton County by defeating the East Clinton by a 55-44 score.
“It was a good win (Saturday). We had a bad night (Friday) against Peebles. It was one of those games where nothing went right. One of the toughest losses of my career,” WHS head coach Blake Kibler said. “Kudos to Coach (Josh) Arey and Peebles. They had their game plan, and they executed and we did not. When (Traeten) Hamilton went out with injury, that’s when they attacked. Peebles played well all four quarters.
“Saturday night against East Clinton, we played a lot better and didn’t let one bad loss lead to two. We didn’t play like we should have, but we got the win. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters. We get to enjoy some days off with our families for Christmas break, take a deep breath and recoup. We have Westfall on the 29th at home, which will be a tough matchup for us.”

In the third, East Clinton scored 17 points, while Whiteoak tallied 14 points for a 45-39 lead after three frames. In the fourth, Whiteoak scored 10 points and held the host Astros to five points.
Ruckel led the Wildcats with 18 points, followed by Rand with 15 points. Other scoring for WHS included Cumberland with eight points, Roberts with four points, Bailey with six points, Atlee Carr with two points and Yeager with two points.
Rand led WHS with nine rebounds, followed by Cumberland with eight rebounds. Bailey added six rebounds. Bailey led WHS with four assists, and Ruckel had three assists. Bailey, Carr and Yeager each had two steals, and having one block was Yeager.
