Whiteoak cross-country competes at Wellston Golden Rocket Invitational

The Whiteoak Wildcats junior high girls got the Wellston Golden Rocket Invitational started in a great way by finishing second out of 19 competing schools (eight full teams) on Saturday.
The Whiteoak junior high girls team was edged by the Division I Athens by eight points and was 38 points ahead of third-place West Union.
Six junior high Whiteoak girls won medals for their high placements in the race. Jaylie Parr was sixth place overall (out of 79 runners). Next was Claire Ames in seventh place, followed by Kelsey Monteith in 13th, Lydia Carr in 19th, Brianna Hill in 27th and Molly McMullen in 28th. Madison Thompson and Brooklynne Campbell rounded out the scoring for the Lady ’Cats by placing 68th and 71st, respectively.

The Whiteoak junior high boys finished in fourth place with four boys runners earning medals. Evan DeAtley was 12th (out of 97 runners), followed by Westin Blair in 13th, Wade Evans in 18th and Christian Price finished off the medals with a 25th place finish. Lance Gruber was in 45th place, followed by Wyatt Fleming in 47th and Jake Ward in 86th for the Wildcats.
The Whiteoak varsity boys were fourth out of 15 full teams. Whiteoak was led by Hunter Morgan, who finished second out of 140 runners with a time of 17:45.
"Morgan just killed it today on this challenging course. We faced big schools like Athens, Vinton County and Jackson, and just like the junior girls, he had everyone asking ‘Where is Whiteoak?’” WHS head coach Doug Hughes said.
Not far back were his senior teammates Atlee Carr and Zach DeAtley, who finished in 32nd and 34th place overall. Freshman Robbie Raines finished 37th place. Logan Cummings was 60th overall, while Jacob Campbell was 85th place and Bradley Ashbaugh rounded out the scoring in 87th place.
Also running for the Wildcats were Cody Everhart in 93rd, Bryce Bailey in 102nd, Tristen Helterbrand in 103rd, Gavin Tebo in 107th, Connor Butler in 108th and Gabe Sheppard in 127th.
For the varsity girls, Ariel Farahay finished 85th place overall and Morgan Evans was 99th place.
