UPDATED: 5 Highland County athletes qualify for 2021 OHSAA State Track and Field Championships

After not having a spring season one year ago, things are looking up for five athletes from Highland County, as they battled from missing an entire season of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic to one year later qualifying for the 2021 OHSAA State Track and Field Championships in Division II and Division III.
Three members from the McClain girls track and field team – Kerigan Pollard, Genève Baril and Lily Barnes – qualified in Division II following their strong performances at the Division II Regional Championships this past Thursday and Saturday. Two members from the Whiteoak track and field program senior Nick Bailey and junior Lydia Kittner became state qualifiers in Division III following events on Wednesday and Friday at Southeastern High School in Chillicothe.
For Whiteoak, senior Nick Bailey qualified for state in two events after his performance at the Division III Regionals (Region 11) in Chillicothe on Wednesday and Friday. Bailey qualified for the state boys 100-meter dash with a finals time of 11.67 in the regional race, giving him an at-large bid for the event.
Bailey also qualified for the boys long jump event with a distance of 20-01.00 for fourth place at regionals.
Whiteoak junior Lydia Kittner was fourth place in the girls 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.10 to become a state qualifier.
For McClain, freshman Lily Barnes was third place overall in the Division II girls discus throw at regionals (Region 7), with a distance of 119-00, setting a new McClain girls school record.
McClain senior Kerigan Pollard was third in the girls 300-meter hurdles race with a time of 46.28 for her state-qualifying effort.
Fellow McClain senior Genève Baril also qualified for state in the 3200-meter race as she recorded a third-place time of 11:58.91 at the Division II regional event on Saturday.
Other results for other Highland County track & field athletes at the regional level included the following.
• Bailey: fifth in 100-meter dash finals, 11.24; seventh in 200-meter dash finals, 23.25.
• Barnes: 11th in shot put, 33-04.
• Kittner: ninth in long jump, 14-11.50; 10th in 100-meter dash prelims, 13.57; 14th in 800-meter run, 2:35.68.
• Pollard: sixth in 100-meter dash finals, 12.93.
• Hillsboro senior Kai Rickman: sixth in 200-meter dash finals, 23.02; eighth in 100-meter dash finals, 11.49.
• Hillsboro girls 4x200 relay team (junior Bre Karnes, senior Sydney Callahan, junior Sinai Roberts and freshman Allison Browning): 13th in prelims, 1:52.31.

Three members from the McClain girls track and field team – Kerigan Pollard, Genève Baril and Lily Barnes – qualified in Division II following their strong performances at the Division II Regional Championships this past Thursday and Saturday. Two members from the Whiteoak track and field program senior Nick Bailey and junior Lydia Kittner became state qualifiers in Division III following events on Wednesday and Friday at Southeastern High School in Chillicothe.
For Whiteoak, senior Nick Bailey qualified for state in two events after his performance at the Division III Regionals (Region 11) in Chillicothe on Wednesday and Friday. Bailey qualified for the state boys 100-meter dash with a finals time of 11.67 in the regional race, giving him an at-large bid for the event.
Bailey also qualified for the boys long jump event with a distance of 20-01.00 for fourth place at regionals.
Whiteoak junior Lydia Kittner was fourth place in the girls 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.10 to become a state qualifier.
