Welcome back, high school basketball fans of Highland County and southeast Ohio. How exciting is it that the 2019-20 season is nearly here? There is a lot to look forward to from teams who reside not only in Highland County, but who are a part of nearby towns and cities that play in the Frontier Athletic Conference (FAC) and the Southern Hills Athletic Conference (SHAC).

There are many changes that have been made for the teams from Highland County, including the Hillsboro Indians boys basketball team hiring Miles Burton to take over their program, and for the Whiteoak Wildcats boys basketball team, they hired Ryan Barnett as their new head coach. Both Burton and Barnett are first-year varsity basketball head coaches.

As always, some of the players will be familiar, some faces are new, and there are always players who will surprise us with their improved skills, which makes the 22-game regular season so exciting to look forward to each and every year.

More than one head coach believes that both the FAC and SHAC will bring some exciting, balanced basketball each and every night they face each other on the court. Sure, there are favorites that will lead the way, but the fun in watching an entire basketball season is seeing if the preseason predictions actually happen, or if a team or two can surprise all of us who love watching high school basketball.

The Tipoff 2019 High School Basketball Preview publication wouldn’t be possible without the great local businesses who advertise within the following pages, so please patronize their businesses and thank them for all they do locally. With that said, it is now time to head to the nearest gym. Best of luck to all the student-athletes and coaches during the upcoming season!
