Softball Tournament Report: Fairfield wins sectional crown; Whiteoak, McClain and Lynchburg-Clay end seasons

Fairfield rallies to win sectional championship

In a game that went back-and-forth, when it mattered the most the Fairfield Lady Lions earned the Division II Sectional Final win by defeating the host Huntington Lady Huntsmen, 4-3 at HHS.

FHS and Huntington were tied at 3-3 going into the final inning, but in the top of the seventh the Lady Lions scored what was the game-winning run when Jaylie Duncan batted in Layla Hattan for the 4-3 lead.

The winning pitcher for Fairfield was Katelyn Chambliss, as she threw a complete game.

Next for the Lady Lions is a Division III SE District Semifinal game on Wednesday, May 19 when they face the No. 1 seeded Wheelersburg Lady Tigers at 5 p.m. in Wheelersburg. The Lady Tigers defeated the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs in their sectional final game by a 17-0 score.

Lynchburg-Clay falls in sectional final

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs lost in the Division III Sectional Finals on Friday night to the No. 1 seeded Wheelersburg Lady Tigers by a 17-0 score at WHS.

In the loss, the LCHS squad totaled three hits and had two errors. Wheelersburg totaled 18 hits and no errors.

WHS scored one run in the bottom of the first and followed that with a three-run second inning. From there, the home team scored two runs in the third and 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

For LCHS, Haleigh Snider was 2-for-2, and Sarah McKinney went 1-for-2. One of Snider’s two hits was a double.

LCHS ends the season at 7-15 overall.

Whiteoak ends season with sectional final loss

The ’21 season of the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats ended on Thursday night, as they were defeated by a 19-0 score against No. 1 seeded Portsmouth Notre Dame in their Division IV SE District Sectional final game.

WHS was held hitless in the loss and committed two errors. Notre Dame scored five runs in the fits, followed by a four-run second, four-run third, and they added six more runs in the fourth inning.

In all, Notre Dame had 16 hits and no errors.

Whiteoak finishes the season at 8-16 overall.

McClain drops sectional final game against Sheridan

The McClain Lady Tigers played the No. 1 seeded Sheriidan Generals on Wednesday in their Division II SE District Sectional Final game, where they fell by a 10-0 score.

In the game, Sheridan scored two runs in the bottom of the first, followed by a two-run third inning and four runs in the fourth. The game ended with two final runs scored in the fifth inning.

McClain totaled two hits and had one error for the game, while Sheridan finished with 12 hits and two errors.
