Ripley Lady Blue Jays hand Whiteoak SHAC loss

MOWRYSTOWN — Beginning the Southern Hills Athletic Conference game with 20 straight points, the Ripley Lady Blue Jays wasted no time in taking complete control against the host Whiteoak Lady Wildcats, Thursday, eventually sending WHS to a 54-17 loss.
All 54 points scored by Ripley (5-5, 12-8) came in the first three frames, as they led 26-4 at the end of the first quarter and 39-9 at halftime. From there, Ripley led 54-11 after three frames, as the game took just under one hour to complete.
Azyiah Williams led all scorers with 28 points, with the junior collecting 16 points off eight two-point baskets and also sinking four 3-pointers.

In just three quarters played against Whiteoak, Williams scored nine points in each of the first two frames, and she did so by making three two-point baskets and one 3-pointer in each of the first two frames. In the third, Williams knocked down two 3-pointers and three two-point baskets for a 10-point frame.
In the 26-point first frame by Ripley, not only did they have the aforementioned nine points from Williams, but Riley Finn had 13 points in the opening quarter. Finn sank one 3-pointer and made five two-point baskets, including a layup with 49 seconds left in the opening frame for the 26th point of the quarter. Finn finished the game with 17 points.
Reggie Taylor also scored four points for Ripley in the first frame. As for WHS, their four points in the first quarter were scored by Kayla Jones.
WHS (0-12, 1-20) scored five points in the second, with a 3-pointer by Kara Ward at the 1:05 mark of the frame, and Madison Berkley sank a layup at the buzzer.
The second quarter for the visiting Lady Blue Jays saw them gain 13 points, and besides the nine points by Williams, there were two points each scored by both Maryann Rister and Finn.
Ripley increased their lead from 39-9 to 54-1 to start the second half. Whiteoak’s two points were scored by Cylee Bratton with 35 seconds left in the quarter.
In Ripley’s 15-point third frame, 10 points were by Williams, two points were from Taylor and one point was scored by Hannah Morgan. WHS outscored RHS in the fourth, 6-0 with the Lady ’Cats having points from Brie Walker, Ward and Ann Ames.
For the game, WHS totaled seven two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and attempted no free throw shots. Ripley gained their points off 19 two-point baskets, five 3-pointers and were 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. For the game, there were two fouls called on WHS and none called on Ripley.
Next for WHS is a home SHAC game against the Division II SHAC champion Peebles Lady Indians on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. to conclude their regular season.
