North Adams takes down Whiteoak Lady Wildcats

MOWRYSTOWN — The regular season continued for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats on Monday as they battled tough and had a strong opponent in front of them in their Southern Hills Athletic Conference game to open the week.
The Lady Wildcats (0-7, 0-10) were unable to stop the visiting Lady North Adams Lady Green Devils from beyond the arc at WHS, resulting in 12 3-pointers from the Lady Dragons and a 62-22 loss.
For the game, North Adams was led by Grace McDowell with 14 points as she made two 3-pointers, both coming in the first quarter. Next was Braylie Jones with 11 points as she sank three 3-pointers with one in the first, third and fourth quarters. A total of nine North Adams players scored points.

Whiteoak had a tough start in the SHAC game against North Adams, as they trailed by a 16-2 score at the end of the first frame. North Adams scored the first 14 points of the game, including four treys in the opening 14-0 run against Whiteoak.
The Lady Wildcats scored their first points with a jumper by Cylee Bratton at the 2:42 mark with the assist from Kara Ward. Bratton led the Lady ’Cats with 13 points, making five two-point baskets and one trey in the loss.
North Adams scored 11 points in the second frame, while WHS improved to net five points in the quarter as both teams used a varying rotation of players. Once the second frame came to a close, the Lady Green Devils led Whiteoak, 27-7 at halftime.
WHS had a jumper from Bratton at the 3:32 mark of the second and a 3-pointer from Hailey Monteith for the final points of the first half.
For the third frame, the Lady Green Devils outscored the Lady ‘Cats, 16-6 for a 43-13 lead. WHS saw North Adams open the third with a 9-0 run for a 36-7 lead, which was finally stopped by a jumper from the corner of the court by Bratton with 3:14 left in the third.
Also scoring points in the quarter for WHS were Ward and another jumper from Bratton. The fourth quarter was the highest-scoring quarter for the Lady Wildcats as they tallied nine points, but North Adams controlled the pace with 19 points in the fourth.
Scoring points for WHS in the fourth were Bratton, Sky Leston and Monteith, as both Leston and Bratton each made a 3-pointer in the final frame.
Next for WHS is an away game Thursday, Dec. 20 at Fayetteville in SHAC action.
