Lady Mustangs take down Whiteoak, Fayetteville

MOWRYSTOWN — In their past two games, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs gained wins as they defeated the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats on Monday in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play, followed by a victory over the Fayetteville Lady Rockets Wednesday in their non-conference meeting of the season.
In the Monday win at Whiteoak, the Lady Mustangs dominated the contest, winning by a 75-40 score.
It was a big-time outing for LCHS senior Sierra Benney, who finished with 25 points in the win. She made three 3-pointers in the first half, plus for the game she also added seven two-point baskets and was 2-of-5 from the free-throw line.
Jade Massey followed with 13 points, as the freshman had two two-point baskets in the win, plus she added two 3-pointers, and she was 3-of-4 in her free throw attempts.
Lynchburg-Clay also had three players score nine points each as Bry Price, Macy Etienne and Serene Walker each had that total in the scoring column. Price finished with three two-point field goals, plus she was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
As for Etienne, she totaled three 3-pointers in the victory, while Walker had three two-point baskets, plus one made 3-pointer.
Kalyn Rich totaled four points, and with two points each were Addison West, Allie Etienne and Ella Barry.
As a team, the Lady Mustangs totaled eight 3-pointers, plus 20 two-point baskets, and they were 8-of-17 from the free-throw line.
Jaylie Parr led Whiteoak with 14 points, with Parr totaling three two-point baskets and finishing 8-of-9 from the free-throw line. Lydia Carr totaled seven points, with one 3-pointer and two two-point field goals.
The rest of the Whiteoak scoring included six points from Molly McMullen, four points by Kara Ward, four points from Brooklyn Campbell, two points by Kayla Jones, two points from Emmy Hawkins and one point by Madison Thompson.
WHS finished as a team with 11 two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and they were 13-of-17 from the free-throw line.
Two days later on Wednesday (Jan. 13), the Lady Mustangs earned a 56-43 non-conference win against the Fayetteville Lady Rockets, as this meeting didn’t count toward the conference standings.
LCHS led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter, followed by FHS winning the second frame at 14-9 for a halftime score of 24-21 in favor of LCHS. The third frame saw the Lady Lions score 20 points, and the Lady Rockets put 11 points to their side of the scoreboard. In the fourth frame, Fayetteville added another 11 points, while LCHS scored 12 points to secure the win.
Benney had another strong outing with 17 points to lead the way. The senior totaled five two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and she was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Macy Etienne was next in the scoring column with 14 points. Etienne ended the game with four 3-pointers, and one two-point bucket.
