Lady ’Cats advance to D-IV sectional final

The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats traveled to Northwest High School Monday night for a Division IV SE District Sectional Semifinal game against Sciotoville East. Though WHS had just two wins in the regular season, that didn’t matter, as they took down the 10-win East squad by a 35-29 score.

The win advances the Lady ’Cats (3-20) to the sectional finals, where they will face the No. 1 seeded Notre Dame Lady Titans on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 6:15 p.m.

To get to that game, the Lady Wildcats doubled up East in the first frame by a 10-5 score with WHS having a 3-pointer from Morgan Thompson, five points by Chelsea Chisman (three free throws) and two points off a basket from Maggie Carr.

In the second, both teams scored four points, with WHS having two points by Lexi Jones and two points from Chisman as WHS led 14-9 at the end of the first half.

The third quarter saw Whiteoak outscored 15-13, with six points from Carr and a second 3-pointer by Thompson, along with two baskets by Chisman for another four points to her overall totals.

WHS also won the fourth frame to seal the win by a 8-5 margin. In the fourth quarter, WHS had scoring from Thompson, who tallied five points in the eight minute frame, including her third 3-pointer of the game. Jones added two points, and Chisman scored one point in the final quarter.

For the game, the Lady ’Cats were 6-of-11 from the free-throw line, while making three 3-pointers and 10 two-point baskets.

Chisman led WHS with 12 points, followed by Thompson with 11 points. Carr totaled eight points, and Jones scored four points.
