Hillsboro Lady Indians softball wins 4 games in 3 days

What a difference one season has made for the Hillsboro Lady Indians. After not gaining a win last season and playing a tough schedule to start the 2019 season, the squad for Hillsboro has finally begun to turn the corner, winning their past four games, including sweeping a home doubleheader Saturday by defeating Highland County rival Whiteoak twice.
The four-game winning streak began with a Thursday home win over Batavia, followed by a Friday win against Jackson on the road in Frontier Athletic Conference play and then the two aforementioned consecutive non-conference wins against Whiteoak at Alice Cassner Field in the twin bill.

In their April 4 win against Batavia, Hillsboro trailed by four runs midway through the second inning as Batavia scored one run in the top of the first and three runs in the top of the second. Hillsboro responded with a two-run second inning, but after a one-run third inning by the Lady Bulldogs, Hillsboro trailed by a 5-2 score.
Then the Lady Indians got things going with a four-run fourth inning to take a 6-5 lead, only to see two runs scored by Batavia in the top of the fifth inning. HHS, again, responded with a big scoring inning, plating three runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 9-7 lead.
Batavia tried to make a comeback, only to see the Lady Indians fend off Batavia by only allowing one run in the inning to seal what became a one-run victory at 9-8.
Heather Burba was the winning pitcher for the Lady Indians with four innings pitched in relief. She allowed three runs on four hits and no walks. Burba finished with eight strikeouts and one hit batter.
Christine Page made the start for the Lady Indians, where in three innings, she allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks, Page ended her outing with two strikeouts.
At the plate, the Lady Indians saw Jordan Moberly finish 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Gracey Dearmon finished 2-for-3 with one walk. Kenzie Dietrick finished 1-for-2 with one walk, a sacrifice, four RBI and one run. Dietrick’s hit was a three-RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Kelcie Thornburgh was 1-for-3 with one walk and two runs. Also for the Lady Indians, Abbie Pettyjohn had a sacrifice and one run. Emma Birkhimer forced one walk in the game, and Jordan Williamson forced three walks and scored two runs.
This was the first win for the Lady Indians in over a season.

The Lady Indians were back on the softball diamond on Friday and they were once again winners, defeating the Jackson Ironladies at JHS by a 3-2 score for the first Frontier Athletic Conference win ever for the Lady Indians.
Hillsboro scored all three of their runs in the top of the third inning where Dietrick, Dearmon and Page all rounded the bases off a three-run home run by Page.
For the game, the Lady Indians totaled nine hits with Dearmon going 3-for-3 with one walk and one run. Page was 1-for-4 with the aforementioned home run and three RBI.
Also with one hit each were Dietrick (double), Mallory Parsons, Jo Myers, Thornburgh and Birkhimer.
Dearmon was the winning pitcher for Hillsboro, pitching all seven innings in the circle. She allowed two runs (both unearned) on six hits, five walks and one hit batter, while also striking out three batters.

On Saturday, April 6, the Lady Indians showed dominance on the softball diamond by defeating Highland County rival Whiteoak by scores of 11-1 and 12-1 in Hillsboro as part of a doubleheader.
In the pitching circle, Dearmon dominated, as she gained the win in a complete-game outing. Dearmon, against Whiteoak, struck out 15 batters in the victory.
Hillsboro totaled 12 hits in the win, and along with that they Lady Indians scored 11 runs in the first game of their doubleheader on Saturday.
In that first game, HHS scored four runs in the second inning, followed by a two-run third, three runs in the fourth and two final runs in the sixth inning. Whiteoak scored their one run in the top of the sixth inning.
Jo Myers led HHS at 3-for-4 with three runs, while Birkhimer was 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Also for HHS with one hit each were Dietrick (hit by pitch, one run), Pettyjohn (sacrifice, one run), Dearmon (two RBI), Page, Parsons (one run) and Thornburgh (two run, one RBI). Also for HHS, Williamson scored one run and forced one walk.
Ann Ames of Whiteoak scored their lone run in the top of the sixth inning after drawing a walk.
