Highland County golfers end season at districts; Potts shoots hole-in-one

Two Highland County individual golfers and one team recently saw their seasons end in the district tournament.
McClain senior Wesley Potts finished 13th in the Division II Southeast District Tournament at Crown Hill Golf Club, held Oct. 6.
On the fifth hole, Potts made a hole-in-one on the 167-yard par three.
For the district round, Potts shot a 44 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine for a score of 84.
In Division III, Lynchburg-Clay freshman Saxen Wilkin and the Whiteoak boys golf team competed in the Southeast District Tournament at The Elks Country Club in McDermott Oct. 4.
Wilkin finished 17th as an individual, with a 40 on the front nine and a 46 on the back nine for a score of 86.
The Whiteoak Wildcats were 10th as a team, led by three golfers who each shot a 98 and tied for 43rd as individuals: junior Ian Griffith (49, 49); junior Carson Emery (47, 51); and sophomore Carson Emery (49, 49).
Also for Whiteoak, scores included sophomore Noah Rudy, 121 (54, 67) and freshman Nick McClure, 133 (67, 66).
Qualifying for the state tournament were the Gallia Academy team and senior Kameron Maple of Oak Hill in Division II and the Manchester team and Valley freshman Cameron Phillips in Division III.
