Highland County athletes compete at Div. III track & field districts; Lions 4x800 relay team sets meet record

The Fairfield Lions and Whiteoak Wildcats boys and girls track and field teams, plus the Lynchburg-Clay boys team, competed in the Division III SE District Track and Field Championships, where the Lions boys 4x800-meter relay team set a meet record.
The Fairfield boys 4x800m relay team of Matthew Mangus, Brandtson Duffie, Andrew Davis and Bennett Hodson broke the meet record with a time of 8:20.66, as they took 17 seconds off their seed time of 8:37.00. The previous record was set by Fairfield last year with a time of 8:23.96.

In seventh place in the 4x800m relay was Lynchburg-Clay at 10:20.69 with the team of Ben Bales, Ashton Frazier, Corey Mullenix and Cole Parker.
The boys discus throw saw Whiteoak’s Shane Elliott place sixth overall at 112-03, while Fairfield’s Holden Ferguson was ninth place at 97-00 and Fairfield’s Ethan Whalen was 13th at 89-03. Lynchburg-Clay teammates Jordan Wills and Dakota Stubbs finished in 15th and 16th place. Wills was 15th with a distance of 81-03, and Stubbs had a throw of 79-04. Whiteoak’s Nate Whited was 21st at 67-04.
For the boys high jump event, Lynchburg-Clay’s Gavin Frazier was fifth at 18-09.00, and in sixth was Whiteoak’s Nick Bailey at 18-04.00. Whiteoak’s Jacob Arledge was 10th at 16-08.75, and Lynchburg-Clay’s Gavin Stroop was 14th at 13-04.50.
Fairfield’s Ethan Saunders was fourth in the pole vault event with a height of 10-00.00.
Fairfield’s girls 4x800m relay team of Morgan Richmond, Chloe Barber, Sarah Young and Ciara Colwell placed third overall with a time of 10:55.66.
In the girls shot put event, Fairfield’s Blake Adams was third overall with a throw of 37-02.50. Fairfield’s Morgan Baker finished in 12th place at 28-07.00, and Whiteoak’s Cora Gillespie had a finish of 25th at 24-04.75. WHS teammate Kytayia Becraft finished 39th at 21-05.75, as there were a total of 50 girls in the shot put event.
