BOYS BASKETBALL
Whiteoak falls to North Adams
In a Southern Hills Athletic Conference game on Tuesday at North Adams High School, the Whiteoak Wildcats fell to the host team by a 64-50 score.
At the end of the first quarter the Green Devils led, 18-6, and when halftime arrived it was North Adams having a lead of 29-17 following a second frame where the Wildcats and Green Devils each scored 11 points.
In the third quarter, WHS outscored the Green Devils, 13-11, cutting the NAHS lead to 10 points at 40-30. In the final frame, North Adams outscored the Wildcats, 24-20.
Whiteoak was led by Bradley Ashbaugh with 13 points (three two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, 4-of-4 from the free-throw line) and Nick Bailey with 10 points (five two-point baskets). Also for WHS, scoring included eight points each from Carson Emery and Brayden Yeager, five points by Josh Hughes, four points from Gavin Temple and two points from Landon Barnett.
North Adams was led by Jayden Hesler with 23 points and Cade Meade with 17 points. Also in double-figure scoring was Austin McCormick with 12 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lady Indians lose to Miami Trace in FAC game
Wednesday saw the Hillsboro Lady Indians travel to Eber to face the league co-leader Miami Trace in Frontier Athletic Conference play, where they fell by a 59-31 score at MTHS.
HHS was outscored 29-3 in the first frame and 11-6 in the second for a halftime deficit of 40-9. In the final two frames, the Lady Indians scored seven points in the third and 15 points in the fourth quarter. The Lady Panthers scored 16 points in the third and three points in the final frame.
The Lady Indians were led in scoring by Karleigh Hopkins with 10 points as she made three two-point baskets and was 4-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Gracie Dean totaled five points, and Josie Hopkins scored six points for the Lady Indians, including a 3-pointer. Mya Bell also collected five points in the game, Mallory Parsons added three points, and Brynn Bledsoe finished with two points.
Shay McDonald was Miami Trace’s leading scorer with 20 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lady Lions lose at Manchester
In a SHAC game played on Thursday, Jan. 30, the Fairfield Lady Lions lost to the host Manchester Lady Greyhounds by a 51-41 score.
Manchester scored seven points in the first frame and followed that with an 11-point second quarter. As for Fairfield, they had a five-point first quarter, and 11 points were scored in the second for a 18-16 halftime deficit for the Lady Lions.
In the third frame, Manchester broke out with 22 points and followed that with 11 points in the fourth quarter. The Lady Lions scored 11 points in the third and 14 points in the final eight minutes of competition.
Fairfield was led by Peyton Magee and Hailey Tolle with nine points each, followed by Ella Newkirk and Braylynn Haines with eight points each. Rounding out the FHS scoring were Emma Fouch with five points and Madison Bronner with two points.
FHS finished 16-of-24 from the free-throw line. Manchester went 6-of-9 in their free-throw shooting and were led in scoring by McKenzie Morrison with 18 points and Hannah Hobbs with 15 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Indians drop FAC road game at Miami Trace
Battling illness where starters were unable to play, the Hillsboro Indians still battled strong in their FAC game at Miami Trace, but eventually lost the conference matchup by a 52-46 score.
At MTHS the hosts scored nine points in the first frame and 12 points in the second, while the Indians came out strong with 14 points in the first and then were held to five points in the second, leading to a halftime score of 21-19 in favor of Miami Trace.
The second half saw MTHS win the third frame at 15-10, but HHS led the fourth quarter at 17-16.
Quintin Captain led the Indians with 20 points, as he made four two-point baskets and four 3-pointers. Next was Lawton Parry with nine points (all 3-pointers), and Brad Miller scored six points. The rest of the HHS scoring included five points by Hunter Price, four points from Bryce Parsons and two points from Coltin Hunter.
Logan Rodgers led the Panthers with 23 points.

Whiteoak falls by six points to visiting Ripley
In a SHAC matchup on Friday (Jan. 31), the Whiteoak Wildcats played close with the visiting Ripley Blue Jays, but when the final buzzer sounded it was RHS who had gained the win, defeating Whiteoak, 71-65.
Six WHS players reached the scoring column in the loss, with Josh Hughes leading the way with 18 points (nine two-point baskets), and he was followed by Bradley Ashbaugh with 16 points (four 3-pointers, 4-of-4 from the free-throw line).
Landon Barnett finished with 14 points (four two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, 3-of-4 from the FT line), while also in double-figure scoring was Nick Bailey with 10 points (five two-point baskets). Rounding out the WHS scoring were Carson Emery with three points and Brayden Yeager with four points.
In the game, the Wildcats scored 15 points in the first and 14 points in the second quarter. Ripley scored 18 points in the first and eight points in the second, giving WHS a 29-26 lead at halftime.
The second half included 12 points by WHS in the third and 24 points in the fourth, but Ripley scored 23 points in the third and 22 points in the fourth, leading to the WHS loss.
RHS was led in scoring by TK Whaley with 19 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lady Tigers win non-conference showdown against Blanchester
Saturday was a winning day for the McClain Lady Tigers, as they easily defeated the Blanchester Lady Wildcats by a 65-30 score at MHS.
At halftime the Lady Tigers built a 37-14 lead, and after three frames MHS held an advantage of 50-23.
McClain was led in scoring by Bri Weller with 14 points, and next was Kyla Burchett with 13 points. Scoring nine points each were Jaelyn Pitzer and Iva Easter. Payton Pryor chipped in with seven points.
Scoring five points was Josie Crabtree, followed by Madison Beatty with four. The remainder of the scoring included two points apiece by Emma Stegbauer and Cierra Bolender.

LC Lady Mustangs unable to gain win at North Adams
In a SHAC game played on Saturday, it was Lynchburg-Clay just falling to the host North Adams squad, with LCHS losing by a 55-49 score.
LCHS scored 13 points in the first and held the lead by a point, as North Adams scored 12 points in the first frame. Next in the second LC scored seven points, while the Lady Green Devils added 19 points to the home side of the scoreboard for a 31-20 halftime score.
In the third, NAHS scored 11 points and LC was held to eight, putting LC in a deficit of 42-28. The final frame saw LC rally for 21 points, while the Lady Green Devils scored 13 points.
Logan Binkley led LCHS with 14 points with the senior making six two-point baskets and going 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Zoe Fittro totaled 11 points (three two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and 2-of-3 from the FT line), and Serena Smith scored 10 points (three two-point baskets, 4-of-4 from the FT line).
Also for the Lady Mustangs, there were eight points by Sierra Benney, four points scored by Kaylee Lunsford and two points by Kalyn Rich.
North Adams was led by Delaney Harper with 21 points. As a team, NAHS was 6-of-13 from the free-throw line, and LCHS went 10-of-11.
