Fairfield Lions win 8th straight district cross-country championship

The Fairfield Lions won their eighth consecutive Division III SE District Championship Saturday with a score of 33 points en route to the first-place finish.
In the boys event, the Top 6 boys teams advance to regionals as the Whiteoak Wildcats were fifth place overall with a score of 141. Lynchburg-Clay also ran in the Division III event with a score of 325 for 12th place.

The Lions were led with a third-place finish from senior Brandtson Duffie with a time of 17:35.71. Also in the Top 5 overall was sophomore Cohen Frost at 17:50.95. In sixth place was senior Austin Setty with a time of 17:51.70.
FHS also had the 12th- through 14th-place finishers with junior Gavin Campbell at 18:21.43, followed by junior Ethan Davis at 18:24.03 and senior Bennett Hodson at 18:24.76. In 17th place was Blake Haines at 18:34.49, giving the Lions all seven runners in the Top 20.
Whiteoak’s top finisher was senior Hunter Morgan in 11th place at 18:15.38. Next were senior Atlee Carr at 18:52.77 and freshman Robbie Raines in 33rd place at 19:44.80.
Also for the Wildcats, senior Zach DeAtley placed 38th overall at 20:08.58. Senior Logan Cummings finished at 21:09.93, senior Jacob Campbell had a time of 21:41.80 and freshman Bryce Bailey finished at 22:16.65.
The top finisher for Lynchburg-Clay was freshman Austin Barnhill in 27th place at 19:24.89. Next was sophomore Dawson Osborn in 42nd place at 20:15.57. Senior Casey Barger had a time of 22:03.22, followed by sophomore Austin Leininger at 24:36.73 and sophomore Cole Parker at 24:41.80.
There were a total of 137 runners in the Division III boys district race.

In the girls Division III race, the Fairfield Lady Lions placed sixth overall, qualifying for the regional race next weekend. FHS scored a total of 149 points. The Top 7 teams in the girls race advance to regionals.
Also in the event for the girls was Whiteoak with a 16th-place finish, scoring 400 points.
Lynchburg-Clay didn’t field a team, but freshman Raelynn Ruble qualified for regionals with a 20th-place finish and a time of 23:03.14.
For the Fairfield Lady Lions, their top finisher was junior Ciara Colwell in sixth place with a time of 21:17.09. In 24th place was senior Megan Gragg at 23:15.97, and in 34th place was freshman Anna Davis at 24:10.77.
Also for the Lady Lions was freshman Makenna Colwell in 51st place at 25:03.92, followed by freshman Emily Price at 26:26.90 and junior Payton Harvey at 27:24.19.
Whiteoak’s top finisher was sophomore Ariel Farahay at 26:59.29. The remaining times for WHS included: senior Katie Ames (27:31.69), freshman Ann Ames (28:36.82), sophomore Morgan Evans (31:19.99) and junior Mirissa Fahrian (32:11.65).

In the boys Division II District Meet, the Hillsboro Indians were 18th overall and the McClain Tigers placed 25th.
HHS totaled 506 points, while the Tigers scored 685 points in the race.
The Indians’ top finisher was senior Bailey Lucarello with a time of 19:05.81. Other times for the Indians included: senior Nathan Spencer (19:06.94). junior Alex Rensing (19:14.02), junior Ben Sowders (21:28.41), freshman C.J. Kemper (23:05.03), sophomore Owen Ryan (24:00.57) and freshman Joey Short (24:03.55).
Times for the Tigers included: sophomore Lyle White (21:03.84), freshman Luke Bliss (21:29.21), sophomore Paul Bliss (21:53.63), freshman Garrett George (21:58.25), senior Evan Hutchinson (22:14.10), junior Miles McMurry (23:30.51) and freshman Mason Reichman (26:18.96).

Hillsboro’s girls team raced at districts on Saturday at Rio Grande where they placed 13th overall, but senior Molly McCreary qualified as an individual for the regional tournament next weekend.
The HHS team scored 353 points for their finish.
McCreary led the Lady Indians with a 28th-place finish with a time of 21:44.95. Also for the Lady Indians, times included: sophomore Rylee Callahan (25:18.87), junior Keeley Schurman (25:28.23), freshman Clara Page (28:17.46) and freshman Haley Boone (28:52.27)
