Fairfield Lions boys cross-country gains 7th consecutive SHAC championship

Once again – for the seventh consecutive year – the Southern Hills Athletic Conference boys cross-country championship belongs to the Fairfield Lions, as they had a dominating performance in the 2017 version of the event at Ripley High School Saturday morning.
Fairfield raced so well, they had 10 All-SHAC runners following their finishes in the conference meet, plus compiled a score of 20 points as a team for the first-place finish in Ripley. The Lions had an average time of 16:43 and total time of 1:23:35 in racers who were scored for the final points in the event. In second place overall was Eastern Brown with 62 points, giving the Lions a 42-point win differential over second place.

With the win, the Lions are 120-4 overall, with their four losses in events coming against either Division I or Division II teams this season. In this SHAC event, the Lions defeated nine other schools en route to the championship.
The Lions had eight runners in the Top 10, led by a duo of seniors in Matthew Mangus and Noah Richmond who placed second and third overall. Mangus was second with a time of 16:17, and in third was Richmond at 16:35.
Fairfield also grabbed grabbed fourth though eighth places as sophomore Austin Setty was fourth place at 16:43, followed in fifth place by junior Bennett Hodson at 16:59. In sixth was sophomore Ethan Davis (17:01), while seventh place was earned by freshman Cohen Frost (17:13) and in eighth place was junior Brandtson Duffie (17:19). The 10th-place spot was achieved by senior Andrew Davis (17:20).
The Lions also had three more spots in the Top 20 with Sam Buddelmeyer in 14th place (17:47), followed in 15th place by freshman Blake Haines (17:49) and in 19th place was sophomore Gavin Campbell (18:44).
Also for the Lions, freshman Brant Haines was 33rd (19:46), while fellow freshman Gavin Cox was 53rd (21:32). Sophomore Riley Friend finished at 23:31, and freshman Orrie Friend had a time of 23:46.
Also from Highland County, the Whiteoak Wildcats were fourth out of 10 teams racing with a score of 120. WHS was led by junior Hunter Morgan at 17:46 for 13th place. The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs finished in ninth place with 223 points, and they were led by junior Dawson Osborne in 40th place at 20:29.
Other times for the Wildcats included: junior Atlee Carr (17th, 18:14), junior Logan Cummings (34th, 19:50), junior Jacob Campbell (39th, 20:26), junior Cody Everhart (41st, 20:34), junior Josh Graybeal (23:06), junior Gavin Tebo (23:24), junior Gabe Sheppard (27:23) and junior Trace Thompson (31:55).
As for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs, their times also included: Dylan Coleman (21:07), junior Ben Bales (22:01), junior Casey Barber (22:20), junior Jeremy Bingaman (23:09), junior Corey Mullenix (23:10), junior Austin Leininger (23:30), junior Cole Parker (23:39) and junior Dakota Stubbs (27:23).
Winning the individual boys championship was Peebles junior Matt Seas with a time of 16:13.
