Fairfield Lady Lions sweep rival Whiteoak

Tuesday night saw the Fairfield Lady Lions gain their first victory of the 2020 season as they defeated the host Whiteoak Lady Wildcats in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action, winning in three straight games for the victory.
Fairfield (1-0, 1-1) won the match by game scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-16. The loss drops Whiteoak to 0-1 in the SHAC.
In the first game between the two Highland County counterparts, the Lady Lions built up an early lead of 4-1 with the help of hits by Peyton Magee and Layla Hattan.
As the first game continued, Whiteoak scored their fourth point following a play at the net by Jeanette Cox for a 7-4 score. Fairfield’s lead later jumped to a 12-5 advantage with a hard hit over the net from Emma Fouch of Fairfield, and later it was Whiteoak’s Brooklyn Gross with the big hit, moving WHS closer to the Fairfield lead at 12-7. The next two points also belonged to WHS as Alex Greene had a block at the net, and Cox scored a point off a serve.
Later Fairfield’s Faith Miller scored a point off an ace, moving the Lady Lions ahead by a 19-10 score. WHS answered with an ace later in the game off a serve by Greene, but the end of the first game came with Fairfield having points scored off serves by Braylynn Haines for the 25-14 game one win.
The second set also went to Fairfield, winning by 10 points at 25-15 in the away match.
WHS led early on at 5-2, but Fairfield battled back for a 5-5 tied score, and from that point on never trailed as they had points off serving from Haines, along with a big spike by Hatttan.
The second game was mostly dominated by Fairfield the longer it went, as they held a 20-7 lead at one point.
Whiteoak had a rally, getting to 15 points, but it wasn’t enough as the final point for FHS in the second game came as Whiteoak hit the ball out of play.
The two teams battled tough early on in the third game with the score being tied at 2-2 and 4-4.
Fairfield built a 6-4 lead following an ace by Haines, and later the lead was extended to 17-4, forcing the Lady Wildcats to call two timeouts as Fairfield scored 14 points in that span.
WHS didn’t fold against their Highland County counterpart with points from Jaylie Parr, Cox, Greene and Sydney Scott, as the scoreboard read 19-14 in favor of Fairfield.
Eventually, the Lady Lions were too strong, and they gained the road victory by a 25-16 score.
Next for Fairfield is an away match on Thursday, Aug. 27 vs. Ripley with JV starting at 5 p.m.
Whiteoak plays next on Thursday, Aug. 27 at home vs. Eastern with a 5 p.m. JV start.
