Fairfield Lady Lions defeat Whiteoak

MOWRYSTOWN — The rivalry game between the Fairfield Lady Lions and the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats was played closely through the first four innings on Friday, April 9 at WHS. That wasn’t the case in the latter half of the game, as Fairfield defeated the host Wildcats, 16-5 in seven innings.
Early on, Whiteoak led by a 1-0 score after one inning and 2-1 after two innings were complete. In the top of the third, Fairfield added two runs to their totals for a 3-2 lead after three complete innings. Whiteoak regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run inning, but then the game changed from the fifth through seventh innings.
Fairfield took back the lead in convincing fashion as they scored four runs in the top of the fifth, while WHS added one run to their side of the scoreboard in the same inning. Next was Fairfield scoring five runs in the sixth inning, then four final runs in the top of the seventh for the win.
In all, the Lady Lions had 21 hits and two errors, while Whiteoak had 10 hits and six errors.
For Fairfield, Halle Hamilton was 3-for-4 with four runs, one RBI and one walk, and teammate Caitlin Campbell finished 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
Layla Hattan was 2-for-5 with three runs and five RBI. Caitlyn Quickle went 4-for-5 with two runs, and Emmi Vance finished 2-for-5 with one run.
FHS also had Faith Miller go 3-for-5 with one run and two RBI, while Sydney Sanders was 1-for-5 with two RBI. Jaylie Duncan ended the game at 3-for-5 with three runs.
For FHS, Hattan, Duncan and Miller each had a double, while Hamilton and Quickle (two) each hit a tripe. Hattan hit a home run.
For the Whiteoak team, they had Cora Akers go 2-for-4 with two runs, and Jaylie Parr was 1-for-4 on the day. Molly McMullen finished 1-for-4 with two RBI, while Averi Bogart was 1-for-3 with one run scored.
Brooklyn Gross was 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Emmy Hawkins went 2-for-3 with two RBI, and teammate Kelsey Monteith was 1-for-3.
Whiteoak’s Kelsey Monteith had a double and Gross hit a home run.
Katelyn Chambliss was the winning pitcher as she went all seven innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits and no walks. She finished with five strikeouts.
