Fairfield boys track wins 3rd consecutive SHAC championship

The Fairfield Lions boys track and field team clinched the Southern Hills Athletic Conference championship for a third straight season, winning this year’s tournament at Manchester High School on Friday night.
The Lions did so by winning eight boys event championships, finishing with a score of 151 to dominate the event. Second place went to the Whiteoak Wildcats, who scored 86 points.

In third was West Union with 82 points. Peebles finished in fourth place with 68.5 points, and the remainder of the standings included Eastern Brown (66.5), North Adams (50), Lynchburg-Clay (43), Ripley (33), Fayetteville (22) and Manchester (18).
For Highland County schools in the girls SHAC track standings, Fairfield was third (115.5), Lynchburg-Clay was fourth (63) and Whiteoak finished in eighth place (33).
The girls SHAC champion was Eastern Brown with 142 points, and in second place was Peebles with 136 points. Fifth place was Fayetteville (41), followed by West Union in sixth (39.5), North Adams finished in seventh (37) and Manchester was ninth overall with 11 points.
As for the Fairfield boys, Brandtson Duffie, Matthew Mangus and Nate Buchanan all won individual SHAC championships. Duffie won the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.98 and the 800m run at 2:08.50.
Mangus was the conference champion in the 3200 run with a time of 10:04.76, and Buchanan won the 110m hurdles for the Lions at 17.15.
The Lions also set the tone for the relay events, winning the 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m and 4x800m races.
Fairfield won the 4x100m race with the team of Tristan Victor, Nick Price, Bryce Posey and Wyatt Fent having a first-place time of 47.83.
FHS won the 4x200m race with the team of Victor, Price, Garrett Spargur and Fent at 1:40.33.
The Lions’ 4x400m relay set a new school record as Duffie, Andrew Davis, Bennett Hodson and Brandon Vidourek won with a time of 3:39.89.
In the 4x800m race, the Fairfield team of Mangus, Duffie, Davis and Hodson had a championship time of 8:55.17.
Whiteoak won two individual SHAC championships with Shane Elliott winning the shot put and discus events. Elliott won the shot put title with a distance of 41-08.50. Elliott won the discus championship with a throw of 117-02.
For the Fairfield girls, Blake Adams won the SHAC championship in the shot put event with a distance of 38-02.50.
