Fairfield 4x8 relay team, Blake Adams become Div. III state qualifiers

The Fairfield Lions will be competing in at least two state events next weekend, following results from Day 1 of the 2018 Division III Regional Track and Field championships Wednesday at Fairfield Union High School in Lancaster.

Qualifying for state with their results at regionals are the Fairfield boys 4x800-meter relay team consisting of senior Matthew Mangus, junior Bennett Hodson, senior Andrew Davis and junior Brandtson Duffie, who had a time of 8:20.00 for third place. Last year, the 4x800m relay team also qualified for state, with Mangus and Duffie a part of that team.

Last year, the Fairfield 4x800m relay team was fourth at regionals with a time of 8:22.41 when they became state qualifiers.

Also qualifying for Fairfield in the girls events was senior Blake Adams, who was third place in the shot put event with a distance of 37-06.75. This is the second consecutive year Adams has qualified for the state tournament, as she was third at regionals in 2017 with a distance of 37-05.50.

More athletes from Fairfield and Whiteoak competed at the regional championships on Wednesday, with the finals being held in the pole vault event as Fairfield’s Ethan Saunders was 13th with a vault of 10-06.00.

In prelim events where finishers in the Top 8 advanced to the regional finals this Friday (May 25), Whiteoak had Kensley Bailey advance in two events. Bailey was sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 13.08, and in the 200m dash, she finished seventh at 26.96.

Whiteoak’s Garrett Miller was 13th place in the 110m hurdles at 17.42.

The 4x200m relay boys prelims saw Fairfield finish 14th with the team of Wyatt Fent, Garrett Spargur, Nick Price and Tristan Victor having a time of 1:41.34. In the same event, Whiteoak was 16th at 1:41.69 with the team of Nick Bailey, Zach DeAtley, Cody Marion and Josh Graybeal.

Whiteoak was 14th in the 4x100m relay prelims with a team of Shane Elliott, Nick Bailey, Cody Marion and Jacob Campbell having a time of 47.28. In the same event, Fairfield finished 15th as Fent, Price, Victor and Bryce Posey had a time of 47.40.

The 4x400m relay prelims for he boys had the Fairfield Lions team of Duffie, Andrew Davis, Hodson and Brandon Vidourek have a time of 3:42.55.

For the girls 4x800m relay race, the Lady Lions were 16th place as Morgan Richmond, Chloe Barber, Sarah Young and Ciara Colwell had a time of 11:09.54.
