Errorless baseball leads Whiteoak Wildcats over Eastern Brown

Thursday saw the Whiteoak Wildcats stay undefeated in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference by defeating the visiting Eastern Warriors 7-2, and en route to the win, the Wildcats were error-free.
The game saw the Wildcats total six hits and force five walks, but what Whiteoak head coach Chris Veidt was pleased with was the fact that his team committed zero errors in the win.
“Having another errorless game is always refreshing,” he said. “We throw and catch as a team very well for the most part.”
The game saw the Wildcats (7-0, 12-1) score runs in four of the seven innings played, including a first inning where Traeten Hamilton (two runs, two walks, two steals) forced a lead-off walk. He then stole second base, went to third on a passed ball and scored a run on a base hit by Zach Harless, as Harless finished 1-for-2, with two runs, one RBI, two walks and one steal.
In the third, it was Hamilton and Harless who scored runs with both runners reaching the bases via walks. Hamilton scored on an RBI hit by Mason Lehr (one hit, one hit by pitch, one steal), and Harless also crossed home plate in the inning.
WHS had three runs score in the fourth with Trey Bogart (one run, one walk, one steal), Billy Oliver and Harless all adding to the Wildcat lead. Bogart began the inning with a walk, followed by a one-out single by Oliver. Both runners stole second base in the inning, and with two outs Harless reached the bases with a walk. With the bases loaded, Lehr was hit by a pitch to bring home Bogart, and Evan Brill (2-for-4, one run, two RBI) had a two-RBI single to score Oliver and Harless. Oliver totaled one hit and one steal in the game.
Also with a hit and a steal in the game was Chase Butler.
Whiteoak’s final run was scored with Brill rounding the bases. Brill tripled with one out and scored on a fly ball to centerfield off the base of Ty Large who gained the RBI.
“Evan Brill led us today with four quality at-bats, along with two RBI,” Veidt said. “Zach Harless was superb in right field with five putouts as he also continues to swing a hot stick with three quality at-bats, including a clutch RBI single to get us going in our first at-bat. Mason Lehr also added two clutch RBI for us.”
Brill was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats, pitching all seven innings for the complete game win. He faced 29 batters, allowing two runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk. Brill finished the game with five strikeouts.
Both runs scored by Eastern came in the top of the sixth inning.
Next for Whiteoak is a game on the road at Fayetteville on Friday, April 12 at 5 p.m. against the Fayetteville Rockets in SHAC play.
