Duffie wins regional championship; Mangus, Adams qualify for state

Members of the Fairfield Lions track and field team qualified for three more state events , along with earning a championship and a runner-up finish, Day 2 of the Division III Regional Track and Field Championships at Fairfield Union High School in Lancaster Friday.

Junior Brandtson Duffie won a regional championship in the 800-meter run, where he finished with a time of 1:57.06. Duffie also qualified for state Wednesday as a member of the 4x800m relay team.

Senior Blake Adams, already a state qualifier in the shot put event, earned a trip to state in the discus throw, where she was regional runner-up with a throw of 115-04. Adams also had throws of 108-09, 101-04, 111-09, 113-06 and 89-03. Adams finished third in the shot put event Wednesday.

The third state qualifier from Fairfield Friday was senior Matthew Mangus, who was third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 9:42.64. Mangus, like Duffie, has already qualified for state with the 4x800 relay team.

Other Fairfield athletes competing at the regional championships Friday included sophomore Ciara Colwell, who was fifth in the girls 3200-meter run with a time of 12:28.61. Fellow sophomore Ethan Davis was 11th in the boys 3200m run at 10:40.82.

Senior Andrew Davis was 10th in the 1600m run with a time of 4:46.84, and junior Bennett Hodson finished 12th in the 800m run at 2:08.43. Both Davis and Hodson will compete at state as members of the 4x800 relay team.

For Whiteoak, sophomore Kensley Bailey finished fifth in the long jump event with a distance of 16-03.00. Bailey also had jumps of 16-02, 15-09.50 and 16-01 Friday.

On Wednesday, Bailey also qualified for the regional finals in two sprinting events. In the 200-meter dash, Bailey was seventh Friday, as she finished with a time of 27.00. She also finished eighth Friday in the 100-meter dash at 13.02.

Whiteoak junior Hunter Morgan was 12th in the 3200m run with a time of 11:11.16.
