Cohen Frost, Lydia Kittner win races at Highland County Invitational

The 2020 Highland County Invitational was held on Wednesday at Fairfield High School, where Fairfield’s Cohen Frost was the boys race winner and Whiteoak’s Lydia Kittner won the girls race held in Leesburg.

There were a total of 52 runners in the boys race, where Frost was the winner with a first-place time of 17:27.38, followed by second-place Dawson Osborn of Lynchburg-Clay with a time of 18:14.41. In third place was Blake Haines (FHS) at 18:41.01, and in fourth place was Brant Haines (FHS) at 19:07.30. The fifth-place finisher was Whiteoak’s Wade Evans with a time of 19:07.42.

The remaining runners in the Top 10 included Robbie Raines (WHS) at 19:18.26, Christian Price (WHS) at 19:25.10, Connor Butler (WHS) at 19:44.24, Landen Kohus (LCHS) at 19:46.17 and in 10th place was Kaydon Fyffe (LCHS) at 19:54.08.

Fairfield was the boys first-place team with a score of 36, and next were the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs with 44 points. In third place was Whiteoak (45), followed by McClain (98) and Hillsboro (143).

In the girls varsity race, the race winner Kittner won with a time of 20:33.70. In second place was Lynchburg-Clay’s Raelynn Ruble with a time of 23:00.06. The third place finisher was Macy Etienne of LCHS at 23:17.37. Placing fourth overall was Bryauna Bailey (Hillsboro) with a time of 24:17.62, and in fifth place was Emily Letts of HHS at 24:24.28.

The remainder of the Top 10 finishers (6-10) were: Claire Ames (WHS) at 25:12.00, Allison Browning (HHS) 25:26.82, Emily Price (FHS) at 25:40.40, Hailey Legge (McClain) at 26:15.33 and in 10th place was Allie Etienne (LCHS) 26:28.81.

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs won the girls team event with a score of 38. In second was Fairfield at 52, followed by Whiteoak (56) and McClain (71). HHS didn’t score as a team.

In the girls middle school race, the winner was seventh grader Taylor Thoroman of Hillsboro with a time of 15:35.16. The middle school boys winner was Landen Eyre of Whiteoak at 12:46.31.

Lynchburg-Clay won the boys middle school team race with a score of 28. The middle school team girls champion was Hillsboro with a score of 20 points.
