Baril, Ruble, Ames advance to cross-country regionals

Three girls cross-country runners qualified for the Division II and Division III regionals for next weekend, based on their finishes at the 2020 SE District Tournaments held at Southeastern High School on Saturday (Oct. 24).
The three runners were McClain senior Genève Baril in Division II, and for Division III, the runners were Lynchburg-Clay junior Raelynn Ruble and Whiteoak freshman Claire Ames.
In the Division II race, the Lady Tigers were led by Genève Baril with a fourth-place finish at 20:07.61.
Also for McClain, sophomore Hailey Legge was 85th out of 121 runners with a time of 25:17.02. Other times for MHS included: freshman Alara Cox (25:55.33), freshman Sierra Barton (26:51.54), freshman Katrina Sturgeon (27:25.44), sophomore Kathy Alvarez (27:34.47, and freshman Kloe Scharbrough (28:57.96).
For Hillsboro, their top finisher was sophomore Emily Letts in 44th place at 22:50.63. Also in the Top 50 runners was HHS freshman Bryauna Bailey at 23:08.36.
Other times for Hillsboro included freshman Brooklyn Lucarello (24:57.41) and freshman Allison Browning (26:05.79).
As a team, McClain finished in 15th place overall with a score of 336, and Hillsboro didn’t have a team score in the district event.
In the Division III district race, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs were ninth overall with a 251 score. Next for Highland County teams were Fairfield in 11th place (261) and Whiteoak in 18th place (409).
Qualifying for regionals as an individual was Lynchburg-Clay’s Raelynn Ruble with a 15th-place finish at 21:57.08.
Next for LCHS was freshman Macy Etienne in 25th place at 22:46.12. LC junior Allie Etienne was 58th at 24:53.43, followed by senior Sierra Benney with a time of 26:08.29. Also for the Lady Mustangs, freshman Allison Rockey had a time of 28:06.30.
Fairfield’s top finisher was junior Anna Davis in 36th place with a time of 23:43.16. Also in the Top 50 was junior Makenna Calwell in 43rd place overall at 24:17.45. FHS junior Emily Price was 59th at 24:58.90.
Other times for FHS included: junior Nayomie Ludwick (25:17.20), freshman Gwen Cox (26:08.03), sophomore Makenzie Miller (28:19.97) and senior Jami Dailey (29:27.67)
Whiteoak’s top finisher was Claire Ames, who qualified for regionals with a 20th-place finish at 22:11.41.
Other times for WHS included: freshman Lydia Carr (26:07.56), freshman Madison Thompson (28:15.60), freshman Molly McMullen (30:18.70) and senior Morgan Evans (31:00.17).
