4 from Highland County named All-Ohio in Division II and IV Boys Basketball

Four players from Highland County have been selected to either the Division II or Division IV Ohio Prep Sportswriters All-Ohio teams for their play in the 2018-19 boys basketball season.
Leading the way is McClain senior Devin Carter, who was selected as special mention Division II All-Ohio team as he was a big part of the resurgence of McClain Tigers basketball this season. In his final year with the Tigers, Carter saved his best for last as he finished the regular season with 16.8 points per game, along with 12.1 rebounds per game to average a double-double. Carter also shot 53-percent from the field and totaled 13 double-doubles.

This season, Carter was also selected to the All-FAC (Frontier Athletic Conference) team, the District 14 Coaches All-District first team (where he was co-player of the year) and he was selected first-team All-District by the OPSWA in the Southeast District.
The Tigers finished the season at 15-8 overall, a 12-win improvement from the previous season.
Hillsboro’s Ethan Watson was selected to the Division II All-Ohio honorable mention squad for his overall season. Watson finished the year averaging 15 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game, 2.4 assists per game and 1.9 steals per game. He also scored his 1,000th career point this season.
Watson was also named to the All-FAC team, the District 14 Coaches All-District second team and the OPSWA All-District second team.
Fairfield senior Sam Buddelmeyer was selected too as an honorable mention to the All-Ohio Division IV team, as he averaged 16.9 points per game. He also averaged 8.0 rebounds per game and shot 74 percent from the free-throw line.
Buddelmeyer was a big contributor to the Lions winning the Division II Southern Hills Athletic Conference championship and a sectional title, as that sent them to the district semifinals to play at the Ohio University Convocation Center.
Also this postseason, Buddelmeyer earned All-Southern Hills Athletic Conference (SHAC) honors and was named to the District 14 Coaches All-District second team and the OPSWA All-District second team.
Whiteoak junior Hunter Ruckel was also selected to the Division IV All-Ohio team as an honorable mention. Ruckel averaged 14.7 points per game, and he also averaged 4.1 rebounds per game. The junior also shot 30 percent from beyond the arc and 41 percent from the field.
Ruckel totaled 1.1 steals per game, 3.3 assists per game and shot 81 percent from the free-throw line. Ruckel was a key player for the Wildcats winning a sectional championship and advancing to the district semifinals in Athens at the Convocation Center.
Ruckel was honored as an All-SHAC selection, as well as being named to the District 14 Coaches All-District first team and the OPSWA All-District second team.
