The annual Commitment Baseball/Softball School was very successful and took place the week of June 6-10 at Shaffer Park.

“Commitment Baseball/Softball School is designed to provide each camper with the fundamentals necessary for hitting, pitching (baseball and softball), catching, base running, infield, outfield play and sportsmanship,” stated Coach Chris Veidt, Commitment School organizer.

This year, there were 71 campers ranging in ages from 6-14.

Instructors included: Chris Veidt, Whiteoak High School head baseball coach; John Combs, Whiteoak High School assistant baseball coach; Brett Malone, Whiteoak High School assistant baseball coach; Scott Morgan, Hillsboro Post 129 coach; Olivia Veidt, Lander University pitcher/first baseman; and Keith Dettwiller, past head high school and American Legion baseball coach and current Piketon High School athletic director.

Due to COVID, there was a two-year break from Commitment School; therefore, 2022 marks the 17th year.

Coach Veidt would like to thank Dr. Tony Wetherington and Quali-Tee Design Sportswear for sponsoring the T-shirts and supporters Bruce and Sally Davis, Sue Boatman and the crew at Shaffer Park. He would also like to thank the parents who make it happen and the coaches who care enough to help kids improve their game. With all of these strong partners pulling together, they made the Commitment School a huge success.
