Over 100 high school students representing all five school districts in Highland County will participate in a Manufacturing Awareness Day on Feb. 29, an experience made possible by the Highland County ACCESS Program. This day will provide students exclusive tours of eight prominent local manufacturing facilities.
The 2023-24 regular season came to a close for the Fairfield Lions on Tuesday night (Feb. 20), as they played a makeup game at Ripley High School and returned home to Highland County with a 72-38 win.
The Fairfield boys basketball team finished the 2023-24 season as champions of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference’s Division II with a record of 11-2.

Losing their halftime lead when the third quarter had closed, the No. 21 seeded Fairfield Lady Lions had a speed bump in the first of two second-half quarters, entering the final eight minutes of their Division III SE District Sectional Semifinal game against the No. 28 seeded Westfall Lady Mustangs trailing by seven points, instead of holding a three-point lead.
The Fairfield Lions got back on track on Friday night. Following a four-game span where they lost three of four, the Lions went back on the road — staying in Highland County — and returned to Leesburg with their 18th win of the season, defeating the Whiteoak Wildcats, 58-28.
Thursday night saw the Fairfield Lady Lions play with one of their best efforts against the reigning Southern Hills Athletic Conference Division II champions.
The Fairfield Lions boys basketball team has lost their past two games in a span of five days, as they fell on Friday (Feb. 2) to the Fayetteville Rockets, and on Tuesday (Feb. 6) against the Miami Trace Panthers, as both games took place at Grandle Gymnasium in Leesburg.
