Tigers, Tribe battle in first day of SCOL meet

GREENFIELD - McClain High School hosted day one of the two-day South Central Ohio League Track and Field Meet, with the host Tigers, along with the Hillsboro Indians, Washington Blue Lions, Miami Trace Panthers, London Red Raiders, Madison-Plains Golden Eagles and Clinton-Massie Falcons, all taking part in the event.
On the boys' side of the meet, prelims in track events were ran, and some of the field events had their champions decided.
The 4x800 relay team of Clinton-Massie (Myles Corcoran, Adam Gullette, Dillon Davis, Matt Brown) won the event with a time of 8:17.46.
The Hillsboro Indians were second with a time of 8:25.14. The HHS team consisted of Seth Darbyshire, Tyler Bick, Collin Rothwell and Jarrod Hart. London was third, and the Tigers finished fourth with a time of 8:50.13. McClain's relay team included Jon McDonald, Jimmy Free, Nick McNeal and Guennar Reyer. The rest of the teams finished in the order of Washington, Miami Trace and Madison-Plains.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Tyler Borton (CM) had the fastest prelim time of 16.61. The rest of the runners who qualified for the finals included: Clark Melvin (MT), Jamrin Mccrary (WSHS), Martin Harpen (CM), Zach Gorman (MP), Quade Mullenix (HHS, 18.05), Nathan Mess (MHS, 17.76) and Keith Fletcher (MP).
The 100m dash prelims had Justin Hoosier (LHS) with the quickest time of 11.62. Clinton-Massie had the next two fastest times in CJ Kline and Tyler Borton. Grant Jones (MT) was fourth, followed by Hillsboro's Mason Hunick (11.91). Anthony Parker (HHS) was sixth at 12.08, followed by Zach Matracia (MHS) in seventh at 12.13. Nick Brannon (MT) was eighth at 12.15.
McClain's Luis Rivas recorded the fastest time in the 400m dash prelims at 51.96. He was followed by Derek Dingus (MP), CJ Kline (CM), Matt Colvin (LHS), Daniel White (MHS, 55.14), Ricky Coyle (HHS, 55.56), Caleb Donaldson (CM) and the final runner to earn a spot in the finals, Clayton Dyer (MT).
In the 300m hurdles, Clark Melvin (MT) was fastest in the prelims at 43.60. Tyler Borton (CM) was second at 44.13. McClain's Nathan Mess raced to a time of 44.38 for third. He was followed by Matt Brown (CM), Zach Gorman (MP), Collin Farmer (WSHS), David Abernathy (HHS, 45.78) and Deion Rockhold (LHS). All eight runners will race to the SCOL title on Thursday.
In the 200m dash London's Justin Hoosier was quickest in the prelims at 23.85. Hoosier was followed by CJ Kline (CM), Grant Jones (MT), Derek Dingus (MP), Aaron Pryor (MHS, 24.62), Luis Rivas (MHS, 24.68), Jordan O'Conner (HHS, 24.75) and Stefan Shields (WSHS).
In the finals of the long jump, Derek Dingus (MP) won with a distance of 20-08.50. Kameron Mace (MHS) was second at 19-11.50. Zach Matracia (MHS) placed third at 19-10.00. Anthony Parker (HHS) was fourth at 19-07.50, and fifth was Emanuel Turner (HHS) at 19-03.00.
In the discus throw, Trevor Keller (MT) won with a throw of 149-08. Riley Shaw (WSHS) was second at 139-07. Britt Wells (HHS) was fourth, throwing for a distance of 126-07. T.J. Cox (MHS) had a throw of 120-09. Preston Wagner (MHS) threw for a distance of 116-02 for eighth. Hillsboro's Daniel Cummings was thirteenth at 78-06.
In the pole vault finals, Tyler Borton won with a height of 12-06.00. Hillsboro's Nick Trusty was second at 11-00.00. Aaron Pryor (MHS) was fifth at 10-00.00. Zach Murphy (MHS) was seventh with a vault of 9-06.00. Thomas Wilkin (HHS) was ninth at 8-00.00.
The rest of the field events and finals of track events will be Thursday at McClain High School.
