Tigers sweep weekend doubleheader; defeat Green Devils, Irish

     GREENFIELD - The Greenfield McClain Tigers hosted North Adams and Springfield Catholic Central on Saturday in a tri-baseball matchup.
     In game one, McClain defeated North Adams by a score of 3-1.  
     After giving up a run in the second inning, the Tigers responded with three of their own in the bottom of the third.  
     That proved to be enough for starting pitcher Tyler Neville who notched his third win on the season. The sophomore pitched four innings and struck out five. He walked none and gave up four hits and one run (earned).         
     Neville was relieved by freshman Kyle Flora. Flora pitched three innings and struck out four batters. He walked none and gave up one hit.
     The Tigers were led at the plate by Dustin Taylor who went 2-for-3, with one hit being a double.
     Zack Mullikin went 1-for-3, gaining a triple. Caleb Gregory was also 1-for-3. Gregory's hit was solo home run in third inning.

     In game two, the Tigers bats came to life against Springfield Catholic Central. The Tigers pounded out 13 hits in the game, including five doubles and two home runs, in a 18-3 victory over the Irish.
     Jon Johnson and Zack Mullikin each hit a home run against the Irish.
     The Tigers big inning was the third.  
     MHS sent 16 hitters to the plate during the inning, and scored 12 times. Eight of the 12 runs came with two outs.
     Mullikin led all Tiger hitters going 3-for-4, with three runs, double, home run and six RBIs.
     Five Tiger hitters hit doubles (Ryan Case, Mullikin, Caleb Cooper, Zach Uhl, and Jimmy Barnett). Case was 2-for-3, Cooper 2-for-2, and Uhl 3-for-4 at the plate.
     Johnson's home run was a three-run blast in the second inning. Mullikin's home run was a two-run shot in the fourth.
     Logan Wise relieved starter Dustin Taylor in the second inning. 
    Wise coaxed a two-out ground ball to end a big Irish inning. Wise returned for the third inning and gained credit for the win. The win is Wise's third on the season. Case relieved Wise in the fourth and pitched two scoreless innings, with one strikeout, one walk and no hits.
    MHS is 11-5 overall, 4-2 in the SCOL. The Tigers will host the Fairfield Lions Monday at 5 p.m.
