Tigers ground SCOL foe Madison-Plains

MT. STERLING - The McClain Tigers were back to their winning ways Friday afternoon. After suffering their first loss in seven games the night before to Waverly, the Tigers rebounded by defeating the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles 10-5 at Madison-Plains High School.
The Tigers have won seven of their last eight games.
In this South Central Ohio League game, McClain (9-5, 4-2) went back-and-forth with the Golden Eagles for the first five innings as MP took an early 1-0 lead after the first was finished.
MHS responded in the top of the third with four runs, taking a three-run lead, their first lead of the game.
McClain used textbook baseball to gain the four runs, starting as Jimmy Barnett led off the inning with a double. Caleb Cooper followed with a double of his own to score Barnett. Logan Wise singled in Cooper, giving the Tigers a 2-1 advantage. Wise stole second, eventually scoring in the inning off a sacrifice fly by Jacob Dillon.
Jon Johnson foced a one-out walk and scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Zach Uhl.
"We had a couple big innings and scored runs when we needed them," MHS head coach Brandon Streitenberger said. "We also had good pitching from Austin (Wilson) and Jacob (Dillon)."
With winds that reached an estimated 30 mph the Tigers held MP to four hits, while the Tigers had four players gain two hits each.
Wise, Johnson and Dustin Taylor all went 2-for-4 at the plate. Uhl was 2-for-3 with a triple, double and three RBIs. Johnson had a triple and two RBIs.
Scoring runs in the game for the Tigers were Wise, Dillon and Johnson each with two; and Uhl, Caleb Gregory, Barnett and Cooper all with one run scored.
Madsion-Plains added three runs in the fourth for a 5-4 lead. MHS answered with two runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to seal the win.
Earning the win for the Tigers was Austin Wilson. Wilson (1-1) pitched 4 2-3 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on three hits. Wilson walked three and struck out five.
Dillon pitched 2 1-3 innings of relief. He allowed no runs and one hit.
The win lifts the Tigers to 4-2 in the SCOL and 9-5 overall.
MHS will host North Adams and Springfield Catholic Saturday with the first game starting at 10 a.m.
