Tigers give Blue Lions first 'official' SCOL loss

GREENFIELD - The McClain Tigers celebrated senior night in huge South Central Ohio League fashion as they kept the Washington Blue Lions from obtaining a perfect record in league play, avenging a loss earlier in the year with a 42-36 win Friday night at McClain High School.
The Tigers (7-4, 11-7) burst out of the gate with a 13-point first quarter to lead by four points after eight minutes.
MHS, again, put up double figures in the second frame, netting 10 points, while holding the Blue Lions to seven points in the same time frame for a 23-16 halftime lead.
Washington (11-1, 17-2) led the third 11-7, but the Tigers bounced back with a 12-9 fourth quarter for the SCOL win.
The Tigers connected with seven 3-pointers on the night but had just one player finish in double figures, as seven Tigers entered the scoring column.
MHS senior Logan Wise led with 10 points, followed by Lucas Polley, L.T. Walters and Nik Beatty each scoring eight points.
Wise connected twice from beyond the arc, as did Walters and Beatty.
Caleb Gregory finished with five points (one 3-pointer), followed by Kameron Mace with two and Zach Matracia with one converted free-throw.
MHS was 11 of 18 from the free-throw line and made 12 total field goals.
The Blue Lions were led by Kyle Slone with 18 points. Slone made one 3-pointer. He was followed by Julian Wyatt with eight and Casey Shaw with five points. Matt Stringfield finished with three points and Connor Johnson scored two points in the SCOL loss to MHS.
WSHS was 7 of 16 from the free-throw line for 44 percent, making 13 total shots from the floor.
The Tigers were 12 of 35 shooting for 34 percent and 7 of 13 from the 3-point line for 54 percent.
Walters led MHS in rebounding with eight of the total 22 team boards. WSHS had 19 rebounds. The Tigers committed 13 turnovers, with WSHS committing 12.
MHS will play again Saturday night as they travel for their final SCOL game of the season at Miami Trace High School.
