Smith earns Division III All-State honors

Lynchburg-Clay junior Michael Smith was named to the 2010 Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association (OSSCA) Friday.
Smith, who scored 27 goals for the Mustangs this past season, was named to the 2nd team in Division III by the OSSCA.
Smith, a forward, was also named All-SHL (Southern Hills League) and All-District in the SE District this year.
Following a sectional championship game this past season, LC coach Dennis West spoke about his junior standout.
"Michael just … I've been looking at his stats and as a freshman he had maybe two assists, then last year he started scoring some, but this year, you can see a jump in his play. Every year, his confidence and skill just get better."
In his final game of 2010, Smith dominated the the Eastern Brown Warriors, scoring three goals in the second half for a 3-1 sectional final win. All three of his goals were scored in a span of 10 minutes.
In the clinching game for the SHL title, Smith scored two goals at Fayetteville High School. He scored one goal in each half in a 3-1 win over the Rockets.
During one three-game span this season, Smith scored six straight LC goals, two goals each against the Fairfield Lions, Hillsboro Indians and the Miami Trace Panthers.
Smith scored multiple goals against McClain, Miami Trace, Fairfield, Hillsboro, Georgetown, West Union, North Adams, Fayetteville, Blanchester and Eastern Brown this season.
Against North Adams and Eastern Brown he gained a hat-trick.
LC ended the season at 15-1-2, going undefeated in the regular season and winning the Southern Hills League championship.[[In-content Ad]]
