HUNTINGTON -  On Tuesday night, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs traveled to Huntington High School, where they were defeated 51-39.

The Mustangs produced quarters of 8, 12, 10 and 9, while the Huntsmen scored 13, 14, 10, and 14 in each of their four quarters of scoring.

"The game was sloppy on both ends, by both teams, as we both had many turnovers and missed scoring opportunities, especially us," L-C head coach Jason McLaughlin said. "We were simply unable to hit open, outside shots, which Huntington let us shoot."

L-C finished 1 of 14 from beyond the arc.

"Our missed layup opportunities throughout the game was the decisive factor as they hit their shots, and we didn't," McLaughlin said.

Steven Collins led the Mustangs with nine points, followed by Dallas Puckett and Aaron Skaggs with seven points each.

On Friday, Jan. 29, the Mustangs traveled to face the West Union Dragons, on their homecoming, and took over the celebration as they left with a 51-46 Southern Hills League victory.

The Mustangs scored 14 in the opening quarter to take a two-point advantage headed into the second. In the second frame, L-C gained a 29-25 lead with a 15-point quarter.

West Union led the third at 8-6, and in the fourth quarter, each team scored 16 points.

"We led the entire game but couldn't break free from their solid defense," McLaughlin said. "The game was back-and-forth most of the time, until the last couple minutes where we were able to get a seven-point lead and maintain it until the end."

The Mustangs had balanced scoring in the SHL win, with Aaron Skaggs and Austin Fawley leading with 11 points each. Dylan Noll added 10 points for the Mustangs.

Skaggs also recorded a double-double by grabbing 12 rebounds.
