LC drops SHL game to Eastern

SARDINIA — The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs and Eastern Brown Lady Warriors kept the score close through three quarters, but the final eight minutes proved to be the final straw for LC, falling to EB 55-46 Monday night at EBHS in Southern Hills League play.
LC opened the game with 16 points on offense, while holding EB to five points after eight minutes. Then in the second frame, the fortunes went in the opposite direction for each team when EB scored 17 points and they held LC to six.
At halftime, the score was tied at 22.
After three quarters, EB led 36-35 with EB winning the frame 14-13. In the fourth, EB outscored LC by eight points at 19-11 to get the win.
LC had 15 turnovers but gained 19 rebounds. From the field, LC was 16-of-44 for 36 percent, 5-of-15 (33 percent) from the 3-point line. In two-point attempts, LC was 11-of-29 for 38 percent.
Laney Lewis had another productive game, scoring 23 points going 8-of-12 from the field. At the free-throw line, Lewis went 7-of-10. The sophomore had six rebounds, two blocked shots, two assists and one steal.
Lillian Blankenship finished with eight points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Brooke Hertlein gained seven points, seven rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot. Hannah Blankenship scored five points and tallied one steal. Meredith Fittro scored three points, with one steal.
Karen Hilt had one steal, along with Emma Setty grabbing one rebound.
LC falls to 3-4 in the SHL and 7-5 overall.
LC is scheduled to play North Adams on Wednesday, Jan. 26 in a makeup game. On Thursday, LC will take on Whiteoak at WHS. Both games have a JV start of 6 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
