Lady Tigers upend Pioneers

The wins keep on coming for the McClain Lady Tigers this season, as they continued their strong regular season with a 47-37 non-league win over the Zane Trace Lady Pioneers Saturday at Zane Trace High School.
On a night where the Lady Tigers shot 13 of 35 for 37 percent from the field, the Lady Tigers held the lead after each quarter played, starting out the opening eight minutes with a 10-8 lead, followed with a strong effort on the second frame, scoring 14 points for a 24-16 advantage after two quarters.
Zane Trace won the third quarter with 11 points scored, while holding the Lady Tigers to six points in the same quarter.
McClain (16-3) came back in the fourth quarter with 17 points to gain the 10-point win.
MHS senior Kate Hammond led all scorers with a game-high 17 points, followed by senior teammate Megan Saylor with 13. Saylor made five free throws and four field goals.
Senior Cortney Hyer netted seven points, including one 3-pointer and four free throw conversions.
McClain junior Chrissy Cobb finished with five points. Cobb sank one 3-point shot. Senior Shelby Buck finished with three points, all coming from free throws, and Jenna Perie ended the game with two points.
The Lady Tigers made 13 shots from the floor and were 19 of 26 (73 percent)
from the free-throw line.
Zane Trace, of the Scioto Valley Conference, shot 17 of 38 from the field for 45 percent. MHS led in rebounding 23-18 and each team had four steals.
MHS forced ZT into 15 turnovers, with the Lady Tigers committing 14.
The Lady Tigers now stand at 16-3 overall and will play again on Wednesday, Feb. 17 against Jackson at 8 p.m. in the Division II sectional tournament.
