Lady Tigers take down Washington

GREENFIELD — The McClain Lady Tigers used defense to jump back into the winning side of things Friday night against the Washington Lady Blue Lions at MHS. Holding the Lady Blue Lions to just nine points in the first three quarters, MHS won handily over Washington, 35-19.
MHS had a trying previous four-game stretch where they went 1-3, with the most recent loss coming against Eastern Brown, where they were held to 18 points on Monday.
That wasn't the case Friday at their home court with the Lady Tigers (4-2, 8-4) scoring 18 points in the first half alone, added with a 10-point third frame and seven more points in the fourth. Washington was held to quarter scoring of 2, 6, 7 and 10.
The Lady Tigers shot 14-of-40 for 35 percent from the field, while Washington was 7-of-29 for 24 percent.
McClain's Chrissy Cobb bounced back from a tough game Monday night with the game-high in scoring at 13 points. Cobb, a senior, scored nine points in the second quarter, including a 3-pointer. She was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Taylor Faulconer followed Cobb in scoring for the Lady Tigers with six points, and Jenna Perie had five. Senior Frankie Wise and Megan Hogle each added four points to the McClain total.
Kaitlyn Faulconer scored two points, and Kate Crabtree scored one point.
Defensively, MHS had 16 rebounds, with Taylor and Kaitlyn Faulconer each grabbing four rebounds. Both Faulconers also had three steals apiece.
For the Lady Blue Lions, they were led in scoring with eight points from Jessica Guyett. Molli Shaw followed with three points, and Courtney Merritt, Lauren Knisley, Carly Laswell and Adrienne Perrill all scored two points each.
Washington had 24 rebounds, three steals and five assists for team totals.
The win lifts MHS to 8-4 overall, and 4-2 in the SCOL. Both teams will meet again on Feb. 12 at Washington Senior High School.
The Lady Blue Lions stand at 3-3 in the SCOL and 6-6 overall.
