Lady 'Cats fall to Peebles

MOWRYSTOWN — The game didn't go the way of the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats in the field or at the plate. WHS was held to two hits in a 10-0, five-inning loss to the Peebles Lady Indians Thursday at Whiteoak High School.
Peebles scored runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take home a win. Of the 10 runs scored, nine were unearned.
"We have some girls playing out of their regular positions," WHS head coach Bret Malone said. "I'm disappointed that we lost, but not disheartened. We have girls stepping up when we need them, and it shows they are working hard. Credit Peebles, they are a good team defensively."
Kristen Swoard was the winning pitcher for the Lady Indians in the Southern Hills League contest. Swoard allowed two hits and no walks, along with no runs, while tallying four strikeouts.
Peebles scored twice in the top of the third with Ciera Seaman and Hayleigh Swayne recording the runs. Seaman reached on a base hit, and Swayne took the bases on an error.
The score soon went to 7-0 with Brooklyn Kitchen, Breanna Unger, Seaman, Swayne and McFarland all plating runs. Kitchen began the inning with a walk, followed with Unger reaching on an error. With one out, Shaylin McDaniels had a base hit to center field, scoring both runners. McFarland also reached the bases with a single. Seaman and Swayne took the bases on errors. All five runs were scored with one out.
The final three runs were added in the top of the fifth. McDaniels took first on an error. Seaman and Swayne both singled to left field. All three runners eventually crossed home plate.
For the Lady 'Cats Kari Fannin reached the bases with a single in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ashley Frazer led off the fifth with a single.
The pitching loss was charged to Ashley Crone. Crone allowed 10 runs, but just one was earned. Crone gave up six hits and three walks, while adding five strikeouts.
"Ashley has been a JV pitcher for the past couple seasons, and she did really well tonight," Malone said.
The loss drops WHS to 3-7 overall, 2-4 in the SHL.
The Lady 'Cats will play again Monday as they will host East Clinton in non-league play at 5 p.m.
