Errors plague Lady Tigers in season opener

LEES CREEK — Finally getting to take part in their season opening game on Thursday, the McClain Lady Tigers were plagued by errors as they lost to the East Clinton Lady Astros 5-4 at ECHS.
"Executing the little things killed us tonight, errors gave them runs and timely hitting wasn't present," McClain head coach Jarrod Haines said.
East Clinton scored three runs in the bottom of the first, as the Lady Tigers committed two errors in that same inning.
MHS (0-1) came back by scoring two of their own in the top of the second.
The scoring started when Alyssa Bean reached base on a walk and Frankie Wise moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt. Bean then scored on a Cierra Landrum single.
Landrum was plated by senior Cortney Hyer's RBI single.
McClain then knotted the score up in the top of the fourth when Landrum, again, reached base safely. She was knocked home with an RBI off the bat of Hyer.
The Lady Astros scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-3 lead.
MHS added another run in the top of the fifth inning when Wise reached base on an error. Wise scored McClain's fourth run when Sasha Lawwell hit a ground ball to the third baseman, which forced another Lady Astros error.
The Lady Tigers were retired in order in the sixth but threatened in the seventh with runners on second and third. The MHS runners were left stranded on a strikeout.
Megan Dettwiller suffered the loss as she went three innings. Detwiller struck out three and walked three. The ace pitcher allowed two hits.
Ashley Green also saw time in the circle for the Lady Tigers as she went three innings. She allowed five hits, two walks, while adding two strikeouts.
At the plate, the Lady Tigers were led by Jenna Perie and Landrum, who were both 2-for-4.
Bean, Alex Taylor and Hyer each had one hit, with Hyer driving in two runs.
MHS will be back in action Friday, April 2 as they host Fayetteville at 5 p.m.
