Cooper headed to state tournament; finishes 4th at districts

GOSHEN - McClain High School will have a representative in the OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament as senior Caleb Cooper battled his way through six matches in the Division II District Tournament for a fourth place finish.
Cooper reached the 215-pound third place match, punching his ticket to the state tournament, where he lost via maj. decision to Gallia Academy's Jarrod Gravely 16-3.
But to reach that point, Cooper had to wrestle his way with five previous matches.
In his first match during the two day event at Goshen High School, Cooper lost via pin fall to Jeff Elam (Batavia) at the 3:43 mark of the match.
In the first consolation match Cooper pinned Nick Woodruff (Greenville) at the 2:42 mark of the match for his first win at the district matches.
The second consolation match saw Cooper pin Chris Cowman (Wilmington) at the 5:55 mark of the match.
Cooper wasn't done as he pinned Goshen's Mike Brushman at the 2;55 mark in the third consolation.
In the consolation semifinals the McClain senior won via decision at 4-2 over Batavia's Jeff Elam in their rematch from earlier in the tournament.
Cooper is 26-9 overall this season.
The state tournament will take place from March 4-6 at the Jerome Schottenstein Center, on the campus of The Ohio State University, in Columbus.[[In-content Ad]]
