Lady Wildcats earn win over West Union; fall to Peebles, Portsmouth Clay

Friday, April 11 was a winning day for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action as they defeated the host West Union Lady Dragons 14-8 on a 20-hit effort.
The Lady Wildcats not only gained 20 hits in their win, but they also forced five walks on Friday, while also finishing the game with three errors. West Union totaled 12 hits and had no errors.
Leading Whiteoak at the plate was Lily Leston, who was 4-for-5 with one run, two steals, and two RBI.
Three Whiteoak players had three-hit games, starting with Kylee Hamm going 3-for-5 with three runs, two steals, and two RBI.
Kylee Ruark was also 3-for-5 with a double, as she also collected one run and five RBI in the win.
Oakley Engle finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and a walk.
Elly McMullen finished the game 2-for-5 with a run and one RBI, while Madison Davidson was 2-for-5 with a run scored.
Having one hit each were Charli Hauke (1-for-5, two steals, one RBI), Janelle Clift (1-for-3, two runs, a steal, one RBI, one walk) and Kiley Mitchell (1-for-3, two runs, one walk).
Leston was the winning pitcher, going 6.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks. She finished with five strikeouts on 108 pitches.

On Thursday, April 10, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats faced Peebles in a Southern Hills Athletic Conference showdown where they lost by a 7-6 score in eight innings.
Peebles scored four runs in the top of the third, only to have Whiteoak answer with a five-run bottom of the third inning for a 5-4 lead. WHS added a run in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-4 advantage.
PHS answered with one run scored in the top of the fifth inning, then they tied the game forcing extra innings with a run crossing the plate in the seventh inning. Peebles took the lead for good with a run in the top of the eighth, as Whiteoak was unable to score a game-tying run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Lady Indians ended the game with 13 hits and four errors, while WHS totaled 10 hits and also had four errors.
Whiteoak had Kylee Ruark finish 3-for-5 with a double, one run and two RBI.
Also with three hits was Kylee Hamm, who was 3-for-5, with a run and one RBI.
Oakley Engle went 2-for-5 with a run, two RBI and one of her hits was a double. Addy Hauke ended the game at 1-for-3 with two runs. Charli Hauke scored one run in the game, and Lily Leston collected an RBI.
Leston had the tough-luck loss, pitching all eight innings, allowing five earned runs on 12 hits and no walks.

On Saturday (April 12), the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats lost an away non-conference doubleheader to the Portsmouth Clay Lady Panthers by scores of 16-1 and 11-1.
In the first game, WHS lost 16-1, where they totaled six hits and had one error.
Kylee Hamm was 2-for-3 with one run and a steal, while Lily Leston went 2-for-3. Also with hits were Madison Davidson at 1-for-2 with one RBI, and Elly McMullen finished 1-for-3. Addy Hauke also forced a walk.
In the second game of the doubleheader, WHS lost 11-1 to Clay. In that game, WHS totaled three hits and committed two errors.
Elly McMullen went 2-for-2 with a run, and Addy Hauke finished 1-for-2 with one RBI and a stolen base.
