Lynchburg-Clay wins in semifinals over Eastern

Playing at Zane Trace High School Monday night in their Division V SE District Semifinal match, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs scored a late second-half goal, breaking a 1-1 tie against conference rival the Eastern Warriors for a 2-1 win.
The No. 5 seeded Mustangs battled their Southern Hills Athletic Conference rival, the No, 4 seeded Warriors, for a full 80 minutes as the game was tied at 1-1, until in the latter moments of the second half it was the Mustangs gaining the win with a goal that was eventually enough for the 2-1 win.
Goals for the Mustangs were scored by sophomores Harley Lewis and Quin Wells, with Wells’ goal being assisted by Lewis.
Defensively at keeper, sophomore Tanner Roberts finished with one save.
Eastern’s goal was scored by junior Jayse Riggs with the assist by junior Kayne Dotson.
Earlier this season, the Mustangs lost at Eastern by a 1-0 score in SHAC play.
LCHS improves to 14-4-1 overall, while Eastern ends their season at 14-4-0.
Next for the Mustangs is their Division V SE District Final match on Saturday, Oct. 25 at ZTHS as they’ll be taking on the No. 1 seeded South Webster Jeeps at 5 p.m.
This postseason, SWHS (15-1-3) has defeated Fairfield by an 8-0 score and Chesapeake also by an 8-0 score.
