Basketball Report: Lions win on road; Wildcats, Mustangs fall in non-conference play

Wildcats lose at home to CNE
Tuesday, the Whiteoak Wildcats lost at home in a non-conference game to the visiting Clermont Northeastern Rockets, 56-29 at WHS.
In the non-conference game, the Wildcats trailed 12-7 after the opening frame, then followed with a 15-7 second quarter in favor of CNE for a halftime score of 27-14 in favor of CNE.
CNE won the third frame at 14-9, and in the fourth frame it was the Rockets scoring 15 points and Whiteoak with six points.
Whiteoak had four players score points in the game, with Brady Brandenburg leading with 15 points, as he made three two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and he was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Zander Roades totaled 10 points with three two pointers, one 3-pointer, and he was 1-of-1 from the free-throw line.
WHS also had two points from Zach Igo off a first quarter basket, and Jonah Michael also scored two points with a basket in the fourth quarter.
Whiteoak totaled eight two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and they were 7-of-7 from the free-throw line.
CNE was led in scoring by Brady Schmidt with 17 points and Connor Yeager with 10 points.
The Rockets totaled 19 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers, and they were 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Whiteoak now has an overall record of 8-13. CNE improves to 10-11 overall.

Fairfield wins on road at Cedarville
The Fairfield Lions earned their 15th win of the season by defeating the host Cedarville Indians Tuesday by a 58-40 score in non-conference action.
The Lions held a 19-13 lead after the first quarter came to a close, and after FHS outscored the Indians 14-9 in the second, the away team Lions led 33-22 at halftime.
Fairfield in the second half was outscored 11-10 in the third, and they came back in the fourth quarter as they outscored Cedarville 15-7 to gain the 18-point win.
FHS was led in scoring by both Brody Smith and Logan McIntosh, who each scored 20 points in the win.
Smith finished with two two-point baskets, five 3-pointers, and he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.
McIntosh in his 20-point game scored five two-point baskets, three 3-pointers, and he was also 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Caleb Barrera totaled 10 points with one two-pointer, two 3-pointers, and he was 2-of-2 in his free throw attempts.
Finishing with four points each were Griffin Friend and Quentin McIntosh, as each player made two baskets.
Fairfield ended the game with 12 two-point baskets, 10 3-pointers, and they were 4-of-6 from the free-throw line.
The win improves the Lions to 15-6 overall this season.

Mustangs fall in OT game against Blue Lions
Fighting until the very end, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs battled into overtime with the visiting Washington Blue Lions on Tuesday evening as the non-conference game saw the visitors defeat the Mustangs, 65-59 at LCHS.
In the OT game, the Mustangs led 15-6 after the first quarter, and the roles were reversed in the second as Washington outscored the Mustangs 15-6 for a tied score at halftime of 21-21.
In the third frame, LCHS outscored the Blue Lions 24-21, and the fourth frame saw the game go into overtime with WCH scoring 13 points and LCHS scoring 10 points.
The overtime period saw Washington jump ahead for good with a 10-4 overtime period for the six-point win over the Mustangs.
LCHS was led by Denver Clinton with 28 points, making 11 two-pointer, one 3-pointer, and he was 3-of-5 from the free-throw line.
Trevor Niehaus scored 13 points for Lynchburg-Clay with four two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and he was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Cody Bell totaled seven points, with a 3-pointer and two two-point baskets. The Mustangs also had five points from Elam Faust with a three-point basket, and he was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Braedon West finished with four points with a 3-pointer and free throw, while Asher Faust finished with two points with a basket.
Clinton led the Mustangs with eight rebounds, while Elam Faust had seven and Niehaus totaled six boards.
The assists leaders were Clinton, Elam Faust and Niehaus with four each. Clinton and Asher Faust each led the Mustangs with two steals, and the blocks leader was Clinton with four.
LCHS is now 8-13 overall this season.
