Hillsboro's Gary Reno earns 100th career wrestling victory

Hillsboro senior Gary Reno Jr. celebrated his 100th high school wrestling win on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Western Brown Hammer and Anvil Tournament.

Reno’s 100th career win came in the opening round, defeating Cordell Abernathy from Conner High School by major decision.

Reno went on to finish as the runner-up in the 175-pound weight class at the event. In the second round, he won by pin over Nick Hanlon of Clinton-Massie, then Reno won by default over Ryan Crouthers of New Richmond in the third round.

After defeating Campbell County (Ky.)’s Charlie Alford by 3-2 decision in the sixth round, Reno fell in the championship match to Marcos Velasquez of Northmont by major decision.
