Mustangs earn district cross-country title; other runners advance to regionals

Lynchburg-Clay wins boys Div. III Cross-Country District championship

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs are the 2024 Division III District champions.

The Mustangs totaled 95 points to their team victory at Rio Grande on Saturday, as junior Kyler Fite finished in eighth place with a time of 17:04.82, followed by senior Asher Faust in 20th place with a time of 17:42.95.

In 27th place was junior Wyatt Osborn 18:06.01, followed by junior Elam Faust in 29th place at 18:13.24, and freshman Tavion Huguely was 31st place at 18:21.04.

LC senior Caden Faust finished with a time of 19.42.30, and freshman Linkin Barnett had a time of 22:07.19.

The Fairfield boys competed in the the same Division III race, where sophomore Ryan Smith was 37th place overall at 18:36.69.

Other FHS boys times included: sophomore Griffin Friend (19:55.46), junior Zach Ahsaruk (20:13.81), sophomore Connor Ayers (20:36.99), sophomore Caleb Rice (20:43.53), sophomore Zachary Morris (28:16.94) and junior Greg Achterman (28:56.41).

Indians team Div. II regional qualifiers

The Hillsboro Indians team became regional qualifiers in the Division II District race at Rio Grande on Saturday.

Leading the way for HHS runners were senior Corbin Winkle and sophomore Rason Brunck.

Winkle finished in seventh place with a time of 16:34.18, and Brunck was 18th place overall with a time of 17:11.11.

In 38th place for HHS was senior Chris Sowders at 18:04.20.

Other times for HHS included: freshman Trenton Gulley (20:50.81), sophomore Jayden Wells (21:32.11) and junior Cooper Swope (22:17.06).

As a team, the Indians boys team was eighth place with a score of 270.

For the McClain boys, times included: sophomore Dart Stovall (20:58.48), senior Nicholas Alvarez (26:46.01), senior Jesse Van Hoose (27:13.65), freshman Zander Lyons (27:49.44) and senior Nathan Alvarez (33:08.36).

Fairfield’s Humphreys advances to Div. III Regional girls race

Fairfield senior Aylah Humphreys placed 16th overall at the Rio Grande Division III District race on Saturday, qualifying for the regional race.

Humphreys had a time of 21:49.19 in the district race.

In 48th place for FHS was freshman Iryna Reeves with a time of 24:23.69.

Fairfield also had times that included: junior Madelynn Wiseman (26:12.39), junior Emelia Roehm (27:59.50) and sophomore Taylor Livingston (33:34.58).

For Lynchburg-Clay, freshman Lillian Layne was 35th place overall at 23:21.21.

Lady Indians, McClain compete at DII District race

The Hillsboro Lady Indians competed at the Rio Grande Division II District race on Saturday, where as a team the place 15th overall with a score of 384.

For Hillsboro, their top finisher was junior Taylor Thoroman with a 49th-place finish at 22:43.55.

Senior Abbey Letts was 58th place at 23:20.85.

The rest of the HHS times included: sophomore Brynne Holsted (27:30.04), junior Alizeh Hudson (27:35.26) and sophomore Claire Winkle (29:10.25).

For McClain, times included: junior Laura Barber (27:34.89), senior Bailey Mitchell (30:47.14), senior Ashley Mitchell (32:22.09) and sophomore Vada Ponder (41:29.13).
