VOLLEYBALL: Hillsboro, Fairfield, Lynchburg-Clay gain big wins; Whiteoak, McClain fall in recent matches

Monday, Aug. 18, 2025
Hillsboro 3, Fayetteville 1 

The Hillsboro Lady Indians volleyball team stayed undefeated on Monday by defeating the visiting Fayetteville Lady Rockets in four sets at Hillsboro High School. 

HHS won sets one, two and four, while Fayetteville won the third set. 

Hillsboro won the first set at 25-17, then set two was a Hillsboro winner at 25-19. Fayetteville won the third set at 29-27, but Hillsboro rallied back in the fourth set to season the non-conference win by a 25-17 score. 

The win improves Hillsboro to 3-0 overall. The loss moves Fayetteville to 2-1 overall.

Monday, Aug. 18, 2025 
East Clinton 3, McClain 0

The McClain Lady Tigers fell in non-conference play on Monday evening, losing in three sets to the East Clinton Astros at ECHS. 

MHS lost by scores of 29-27, 25-13 and 25-12. 

McClain was led in kills by Alana Jackson with four, and the sophomore led the team in aces with three. 

Brynlee Karnes had the lone block for MHS, and the digs leaders were Zoie Everhart and Lillie Saunders with eight each. 

Izzy Clevenger led the Lady Tigers with three assists, while Saunders finished with the most service receptions with 23 for McClain. 

MHS now stands at 1-2 overall this season.

Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025 
Fayetteville 3, Whiteoak 0 

On Tuesday, Aug. 19 the Fayetteville Lady Rockets defeated the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats in three straight sets in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action. 

Fayetteville won by scores of 25-7, 25-7 and 25-14. 

Fayetteville was led in kills by Tegan Combs with eight, while the leader in aces was Maya Murphy with four and she led Fayetteville with 18 assists. Christina Murphy was the Fayetteville team leader in digs with seven.

Fayetteville improves to 3-1 overall. Whiteoak falls to 0-3 on the season.

Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025 
Fairfield 3, Clinton-Massie 2

Trailing 2-0 after the first two sets, the Fairfield Lady Lions didn’t back down in their non-conference road match at Clinton-Massie. Instead, the Lady Lions roared back by winning the next three sets to gain the win on Tuesday at CMHS. 

The big road win by the Lady Lions saw them trail by a 2-0 set score after falling 25-19 and 25-14 in the first two sets. 

From there, the Lady Lions rebounded with a set three win at 26-24, then tied the match score with a 25-21 win in set four. The fifth and final set saw Fairfield win at 15-11 for the match win. 

Jorja May led Fairfield with five aces, while Addison Cannon led with four blocks, and Jaeden Drury had three blocks. Alyssa Bales was the leader in digs with 15. 

Fairfield now stands at 2-0 overall this season.

Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2025 
Lynchburg-Clay 3, Eastern 0
 

In a Southern Hills Athletic Conference match on Tuesday, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs won in three sets over Eastern by scores of 25-6, 27-25 and 25-16. 

In the win the Lady Mustangs were led in kills by Halle Greene with 14, followed by Kylie O’Connor with seven. 

The digs leader was Joslyn Rockey with 14, and teammate Avery Shope totaled 11 digs. 

Ava McLaughlin totaled 29 assists for the LCHS lead, and Shope was the leader in aces with four. Matalyn Magee finished with all three of Lynchburg-Clay’s blocks. 

LC’s win improves them to 2-1 overall on the season and 1-0 in the SHAC.
