Lady ’Cats top West Union
The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats earned a road victory Thursday night (Jan. 16), as they defeated the West Union Lady Dragons, 38-30, adding to their Southern Hills Athletic Conference win total for the season.
WHS trailed West Union 5-3 after the first quarter, as Whiteoak had two points in the first quarter from Kylee Hamm and one point from Jillian Lucas off a free throw.
WHS broke out in the second quarter, outscoring WUHS 20-5 for a halftime advantage of 23-10. Whiteoak’s second quarter consisted of three 3-pointers for nine points by Addy Hauke, a 3-pointer from Elly McMullen, five points from Lucas (a 3-pointer and two-point basket), two points from Hamm and a free throw made by Charli Hauke.
WUHS won the third quarter at 10-9, with the Lady ’Cats having four point from Torie Potts and five points scored by Roberts with two two-point baskets and a free throw.
In the fourth quarter, West Union scored 10 points and Whiteoak added six points to their final total to seal the eight-point victory.
Addy Hauke scored four points in the fourth, including making a 3-pointer, and Potts scored two points.
Addy Hauke led Whiteoak with 13 points, totaling four 3-pointers, and she was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Lucas and Potts each finished with six points as Lucas made one two-point basket and a 3-pointer, plus she was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Potts sank three two-point baskets.
Roberts finished the game with five points, sinking two two-point buckets and she went 1-of-2 in her free throw attempts. Hamm totaled four points off two baskets, and with three points off a 3-pointer was McMullen. Charli Hauke ended the game with one point.
Team totals for WHS included eight two-point baskets, six 3-pointers and going 4-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Ashlah Staten led West Union with 10 points, making five two-point baskets.

Lions win on homecoming
The Fairfield Lions celebrated their homecoming with a win at Grandle Gymnasium on Friday evening, defeating the Ripley Blue Jays, 56-22.
Fairfield had a strong first half with a 15-point first quarter and 16 points in the second frame. Ripley in the first half scored four points in the first quarter, followed by 10 points in the second, leaving Fairfield in the lead by 17 points at 31-14.
In the first frame for the Lions, their 15-point quarter included 11 points from Logan McIntosh with a 3-pointer and four two-point baskets. The first frame also saw Brody Smith and Chase Newman each score two points.
The second frame for the Lions included Griffin Friend scoring seven points, including a 3-pointer and two two-point baskets. Caleb Barrera made a free throw, Smith added two baskets for four points, Dane Hodson sank a 3-pointer, and Newman also made a free throw.
After the 16-10 second quarter by Fairfield, the third frame was even better for the Lions, outscoring Ripley 21-1 in the eight-minute frame, putting FHS ahead 52-15.
Smith in the third added 13 points with two 3-pointers, two two-point baskets and a free throw. McIntosh scored five points with a 3-pointer and two-point field goal, and Friend also made a 3-pointer.
The Lions scored four points in the fourth frame with a 3-pointer by Friend and free throw from Quentin McIntosh. Ripley scored seven points in the quarter.
Fairfield was led in scoring by Smith with 19 points, making six two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Logan McIntosh finished with 16 points, ending the game with five two-point baskets and two 3-pointers.
Friend totaled 13 points with two two-pointers and three 3-pointers. Also scoring points for the Lions were Hodson (three), Newman (three), Barrera (one) and Quentin McIntosh (one).
Team totals for Fairfield were 11 two-point baskets, 10 3-pointers and they were 4-of-8 in their free-throw attempts.
For Ripley, their scoring leader was Carson Fulton with seven points.
The win improves Fairfield’s overall record to 10-2 overall and 7-1 in the SHAC Division II standings. Ripley moves to 1-11 overall and 0-6 in the SHAC Division II standings.

Indians drop road game against Fairland
Playing at Shawnee State University at the Elite Basketball Showcase on Saturday afternoon, the Hillsboro Indians lost a non-conference game to the Fairland Dragons, 63-42.
HHS trailed 9-7 after the first frame, an eight-minute period where all seven points were scored by Jack Howland, as the sophomore made a 3-pointer and two other baskets from the field.
HHS was outscored in the second quarter 20-10, with their 10 points being scored by Tre Captain and Howland with four points each (both players made two baskets each) and Mason Dumpert sank a basket for two points.
At the half, the Indians trailed 29-17.
In the second half, Fairland scored 14 points in the third and 20 points in the fourth quarter. The Indians had a 10-point third frame and added 15 more points in the fourth quarter.
The third frame saw Tate Davis score five points in the frame with a 3-pointer and two free throws, while Howland also scored five points off a 3-pointer and a two-point bucket.
Hillsboro’s fourth quarter saw Davis score nine points off a 3-pointer, two two-pointers and two free throws on two opportunities from the free-throw line. Brayden Hunter also shot a 3-pointer, Captain sank a free throw and Brady Juillerat scored two points off a basket.
The Indians as a team collected 11 two-point baskets, five 3-pointers and the were 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Howland led the Indians with 16 points, finishing the game with five two-pointers and two 3-pointers.
Davis scored 14 points for Hillsboro, ending the game with two two-point baskets and two 3-pointers, plus he was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Captain totaled five points with two baskets and a free throw. The Indians also had three points from Hunter, and with two points each were Dumpert and Juillerat.
Fairland was led by Trevor Lochow with 22 points, making six 3-pointers and two two-point field goals. They also had Brody Buchanan with 19 points and Keagan Smith with 11 points.
Hillsboro now has an overall record of 6-6.

Tigers fall in away game at Unioto
Saturday evening saw the McClain Tigers play a non-conference game in Ross County, dropping the contest by a 61-28 score to the host Unioto Shermans.
The Tigers played a close first quarter, as they trailed by just four points after the first frame at 10-6, where Jordan Bell scored all six McClain points with two 3-pointers.
MHS scored three points in the second frame, while UHS had a 19-point quarter, allowing them to have the halftime lead at 29-9.
McClain in the second quarter had two points from Zane Adams and a point by Owen Sykes.
The second half included McClain scoring 10 points in the third and nine points in the fourth frame. Unioto scored 10 points in the third and 22 points in the fourth quarter.
MHS in the third quarter had six points off three baskets by Adams, and one basket each for two points from Sykes and Hudson Lovett. The Tigers’ fourth frame had a 3-pointer by Hayden Angel, three points from Adams, two points by Brandon Greene and a free throw made by Riley Cummins.
The Tigers were led in scoring by Adams with 11 points, making five two-point baskets and a free throw.
MHS also had six points from Bell, and with three points each were Angel and Sykes. McClain also had two points each from Lovett and Greene, and scoring one point off a free throw was Cummins.
Team totals for the Tigers included eight two-point baskets, three 3-pointers and they were 3-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Unioto totaled 20 two-point buckets, four 3-pointers and they were 3-of-9 from the free-throw line.
Unioto was led in scoring by Blake Hoops with 16 points, as he made seven two-point baskets and he was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
The loss moves McClain’s overall record to 5-5 overall.

Lady Indians race past Blanchester
Monday evening saw the Hillsboro Lady Indians defeat the visiting Blanchester Lady Wildcats 62-21 at Hillsboro High School.
Hillsboro scored 22 points in the first quarter, while the Lady Wildcats scored three points for a 20-3 HHS lead after the opening eight minutes.
HHS in the first frame had seven pointers from Kobie Miles and seven points from Kyra Boyd, as both players each made a 3-pointer, a two-pointer and two free throws on two attempts.
The first frame also had six points for Hillsboro’s Dinah Ames off two 3-pointers, and Tylee Davis scored two points.
Hillsboro won the second frame at 19-5 for a halftime lead of 41-8. In the 19-point second quarter for the Lady Indians, they had seven players reach the scoring column, with Boyd scoring five points off a 3-pointer and two-point basket, while Ames made her third 3-pointer of the game.
Peighton Bledsoe scored four points in the second frame off two baskets, and scoring two points each were Ella Jordan, Davis and Annia Young. The quarter also saw Miles make one free throw for HHS.
In the third quarter, the Lady Indians added 11 points, while Blanchester scored four points, and in the fourth frame HHS outscored Blanchester 10-9.
Hillsboro’s third quarter included a 3-pointer by Bledsoe, four free throws made by Jordan, Davis made two free throws, and also with two points was Boyd.
The fourth frame for the Lady Indians saw them have four points each from Bledsoe and Boyd as each made two baskets, and Ames made two free throws.
Boyd led Hillsboro with 18 points, finishing the game with five two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and she was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Ames totaled 11 points for HHS, sinking three 3-pointers and going 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Bledsoe also scored 11 points as she made four two-point baskets and one 3-pointer.
Miles totaled eight points in the game with a two-point basket, a 3-pointer, and she was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Scoring six points each were Jordan and Davis, as Jordan made a two-point basket and she finished 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. Davis made two two-point baskets and two free throws on two attempts. Young totaled two points for the game.
HHS for the game totaled 13 two-point baskets, seven two-point baskets, and they were 13-of-15 from the free-throw line.
Blanchester finished the game with six two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and they went 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Alison Trovillo led Blanchester with nine points.
In JV action, Hillsboro defeated Blanchester 47-5.
Leading the JV team for HHS were Piper Wilkin and Dinah Ames with 10 points each. Taylor-Ann Scruggs and Annia Young each scored seven points. Also for the HHS JV team, scoring included Josie Roades (six), Chanel Capital (four), Kiara Boris (two) and Peyton Gobin (one).
The win improves Hillsboro’s overall record to 13-2.

Lady Lions net 27-point win over Manchester
The winning ways for the Fairfield Lady Lions returned on Monday evening by defeating the visiting Manchester Lady Greyhounds, 61-34.
The first half saw Fairfield total 24 points, with 11 points in the first quarter and 13 points in the second. Manchester scored five points in the first frame and eight points in the second quarter.
FHS in the opening quarter had a 3-pointer by Paisley Stahlhut and two-point baskets by Rilee Quickle, Kassi Miller, Vivian Henninger and Meri Jackson.
The second frame for FHS included seven points by Quickle, as she made a 3-pointer and two two-point baskets. There were also two points each scored by Isabelle Hale, Addison Cannon and Jackson.
Fairfield opened the second half with a 25-point third frame — they led at halftime by a 24-13 score — as Miller scored 10 points in the quarter with those points coming from two 3-pointers, a two-pointer and two made free throws.
Quickle scored four points in the third, including a 3-pointer, and Stahlhut also made a 3-pointer. Scoring two points each in the third were Hale, Henninger, Cannon and McKinley Cox.
Fairfield scored 12 points in the fourth frame with a 3-pointer from Stahlhut, five points off a 3-pointer and two-point bucket by Hale, a two-pointer from Quickle and two points off a basket from Henninger.
The Lady Lions totaled 17 two-point baskets, eight 3-pointers, and they went 3-for-9 from the free-throw line.
Fairfield was led in scoring by Quickle with 15 points, making four two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and she was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Miller was next with 12 points, totaling two two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and she was 2-for-3 from the free-throw line.
Other final scoring for FHS included Stahlhut (three 3-pointers), Hale with nine points (three two-point baskets, one 3-pointer), and Henninger with six points as she made three two-point baskets.
Scoring four points each were Cannon (two baskets) and Jackson (two baskets), and McKinley Cox also scored two points.
Manchester was led by Mahayla Brown with 16 points. Abby Neria totaled nine points, and she was followed by Destiny Alexander with six points and Bella Hughes with three points.
Team totals for Manchester included 14 two-point baskets, and they were 6-of-15 from the free-throw line.
Fairfield’s win improves them to 3-11 overall and 2-6 in the SHAC.
