Whiteoak loses to Peebles in district quarterfinals
In their Division V SE District Quarterfinal game on Thursday, the Whiteoak Wildcats lost at home to the visiting Peebles Indians by a 2-0 score.
WHS entered the game as the No. 8 seeded team, as they hosted the No. 9 Peebles team in the contest between two Southern Hills Athletic Conference rivals.
Peebles’ goals were scored by junior Paxton Ryan and sophomore Chase Shoemaker. An assist was credited to senior Garrett Shiveley.
At goal for Peebles, sophomore Gage Daniels had 12 saves.
Peebles’ win improves them to 6-9-1 overall.
Whiteoak ends their season at 10-7-0 overall, and in the SHAC they had a record of 3-5-0.
Tyler Wessner led WHS with 24 goals this season, followed by Abe Flader with 13. Kenyon Hughes led the Wildcats with seven assists in ’24.
Seniors for Whiteoak are: Jackson Bedford, Adrionna Phillips, Tori Potts, Austin Richards, Tyler Wessner and Dalton Vance.
This was the first varsity season of the current Whiteoak soccer program, as they are coached by Adam Schelling. Last season, the current WHS program played a JV schedule.
Next for Peebles is a district semifinal game on Monday, Oct. 21 against No. 1 seeded Minford at Zane Trace High School with a start time of 6 p.m.

Lions bow out of tournament against Minford
The 2024 season for the Fairfield Lions ended on Thursday as they lost to the No. 1 seeded Minford Falcons by a 5-1 score at Minford High School in the Division V SE District Quarterfinals.
Fairfield’s lone goal was a spectacular goal scored by senior Logan McIntosh, who sent the ball to the top corner of the net from around 20-plus yards out, with the ball curving into the top corner of the goal, past the keeper.
McIntosh finished the season with nine goals, and for his career he finished with 35 goals. McIntosh led FHS with four assists this season.
The Lions entered the game as the No. 16 seed and had previously won in the tournament as they had a first-round win over Portsmouth Clay by a 2-1 score on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
Fairfield ends the season with an overall record of 5-14-0, and in SHAC play they had a record of 3-5-0.
Seniors for the Lions are: Corey Zimmerman, Logan McIntosh, Zane Matthews, Dane Hodson and Carson Jenkins.
Minford (14-3-0) will play again Monday, Oct. 21 at Zane Trace High School in the district semifinals against the Peebles Indians (6-8-1), the No. 9 seed, at 6 p.m.

Indians close out season; fall in tournament to Athens
The Hillsboro Indians traveled the two-hour drive to Athens County on Thursday to face the host Athens Bulldogs in their Division III SE District Quarterfinal game, where the Indians’ season came to an end, falling to the No. 3 seeded Bulldogs, 4-0.
The No. 6 seeded Indians finish the ’24 season at 12-6-0 overall, and in Frontier Athletic Conference play they were 5-3-0 overall.
Hillsboro’s seniors are Ryan Fender, Tate Davis, Wesley Bailey, Judah Brandyberry, Austin Bledsoe and Brayden Scruggs.
The Indians this season saw Bailey lead the team in goals with 23, followed by Davis with 14 and Ryan Howland with 10. The assists leaders were Bailey with 20 and Howland with 10.
At goal this season, Fender totaled 105 saves.
Athens moves to 14-4 overall and will play again on Thursday, Oct. 24 No. 2 seeded Chillicothe at Logan High School with an 8 p.m. start.

VOLLEYBALL
Lady Indians fall to Circleville to end season
The Hillsboro Lady Indians volleyball team lost in their Division III Quarterfinal game on Thursday to the No,. 2 seeded Circleville Lady Tigers in three consecutive sets to end their ’24 season.
In the game played at Circleville High School, the No. 7 seeded Lady Indians lost by scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-14.
HHS finished 1-1 in the postseason tournament, earlier defeating McClain in four sets at HHS.
Overall this season, the Lady Indians finish with a record of 16-8, and in FAC action they had a record of 7-3.
Seniors for HHS are Jadi Howland, Samantha Tipton, Addison Huff and Camryn Spruell.
Tipton led the Lady Indians this season with 257 kills, and 43 blocks, while sophomore Tylee Davis was the leader in aces with 46 and digs with 377. Junior Kayla Seeling led HHS with 619 assists.
Circleville will play in the district semifinals on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Southeastern High School against No. 3 seeded Fairfield Union at 7:45 p.m.
